<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8211; The phone call to Pat Hall came at just the right time.</p><p>The powerlifting enthusiast had just finished competing in a successful powerlifting event at the Odyssey Fitness Center. Now, he was being asked to help organize the powerlifting competition for the Keystone State Games.</p><p>The answer was a no-brainer for Hall, who gladly agreed to help pull together the new event for the games.</p><p>&#8220;The week they asked, I had just finished another powerlifting event at Odyssey,&#8221; Hall said. &#8220;It just ran so smooth.&#8221;</p><p>So thanks to Hall and that efficiently run event, the Odyssey will host the Keystone State Games powerlifting competition on Saturday, July 27.</p><p>Other sports that will be featured at the Keystone State Games, which run from July 25 through 29 and Aug. 1 through 4, archery, badminton, baseball, bocce, bowling, cycling, darts, disc golf, fencing, field hockey, golf, ice hockey, karate, masters swimming, pickleball, swimming, synchronized swimming, table tennis, tennis, track and field, 5K run/walk, taekwondo, wrestling, shooting, Crossfit, Wiffle Ball and fitness championship.</p><p>Hall said a typical powerlifting event will feature squat, bench press and deadlift.</p><p>However, the Keystone Games event will be what Hall called a &#8220;push-and-pull event.&#8221; That means it will only have a bench press and deadlift competition.</p><p>Still Hall expects to see a good turnout.</p><p>&#8220;The cool thing about this is it&#8217;s not a registration only event,&#8221; he said.</p><p>Competitors will be able to enter the day of event from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.</p><p>Hall hopes that some people with no intention of trying to hoist heavy weights off the ground and racks come out to event, adding that spectators are &#8220;encouraged&#8221; to attend.</p><p>The event will feature the following divisions:</p><p>Scholastic Female 18 &amp; under</p><p>&#8226; Open Female 19 &amp; over</p><p>&#8226; Scholastic Male 18 &amp; under</p><p>&#8226; Open Male 19-39</p><p>&#8226; Masters Male Age 40-44</p><p>&#8226; Masters Male Age 45-49</p><p>&#8226; Masters Male Age 50-54</p><p>&#8226; Masters Male Age 55-59</p><p>&#8226; Masters Male Age 60-64</p><p>&#8226; Masters Male Age 65 &amp; over</p><p>&#8226; RAW Male 19-39</p><p>&#8226; RAW Female 19-39</p><p>USPAL rules will apply, and medals will be awarded to the top three athletes in each division.</p><p>Hall expects to see some good competition at the event, and he should know.</p><p>He&#8217;s been powerlifting since his college days, and considers himself &#8220;a big squatter.&#8221; He said he&#8217;s &#8220;chasing a 1,000-pound power squat.&#8221;</p><style>
