Little League: Greater Pittston Area opens state tournament with win in nine innings

Greater Pittston Area wins state Little League opener

<p>WEST PITTSTON &#8212; A tense six-hour standoff ended peacefully on Sunday afternoon, as police were able to apprehend two suspects holed up in an apartment on Erie Avenue.</p><p>&#8220;We had a standoff situation, [but] thanks to the resources sent in from the state, we were able to resolve it,&#8221; said West Pittston Police Chief Michael Turner after police were able to clear the scene around 3:30 p.m.</p><p>Around 9 a.m. on Sunday morning, police were alerted to a report of an apparent hostage situation on Erie Avenue near CVS Pharmacy in West Pittston.</p><p>Inside the apartment, an armed male, Robert Hospodar, had barricaded himself and a woman. The woman, Kristin Pilcavage, was wanted by the police on a warrant for drug-related charges, which is what initially brought police to the scene.</p><p>Hospodar took to Facebook to announce that the police were at his door and that he would not come quietly.</p><p>&#8220;Cop&#8217;s are at my door with m16s told them they kick my door in and I&#8217;m shooting,&#8221; Hospodar said in his post to Facebook. &#8220;I love you all and Kristin Pilcavage is at my side, Goodbye.&#8221;</p><p>The police were initially able to get the occupants of an upstairs apartment, a different family, out of the house safely.</p><p>At around 2:45 p.m., police were able to break the windows of the apartment, and finally after hours of tense silence, the standoff came to a close as police were able to get both Hospodar and Pilcavage out without any casualties. The only injuries suffered were self-inflicted injuries from Hospodar, who reportedly cut his wrist before police were able to get him.</p><p>Representatives from the state police as well as numerous local stations were on hand to assist in the capture of the two suspects. </p><style>
