Opinion: IndyCar and Pocono must make tough marriage decision

Their view: Trump’s silence on Hong Kong is making America weaker

<p>When will lawmakers realize Americans have waited far too long and witnessed way too many tragedies to wait any longer for action on gun safety?</p><p>We urge Congress to take immediate action on sensible gun violence prevention measures, which are supported by an overwhelming majority of Americans. Silence is no longer an acceptable response to the multiple mass murders committed by domestic terrorists with inexplicable access to military-style firearms, high-capacity magazines and unlimited rounds of ammunition.</p><p>Our elected officials can and must stand up to the bullying gun lobby. A great place to start would be for the Senate to immediately pass legislation already approved by the House (HR 8), the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019. We also call on Congress to establish a bipartisan committee to research gun violence and establish additional commonsense legislation to help end this crisis.</p><p>The time is now for our legislators to show they are listening to their constituents and implement universal background checks, close the gun-show loophole, limit the size of ammunition clips, monitor inordinate purchases of ammunition, improve our mental health system, authorize research to study gun violence, and control access to weapons of war and devices that make them even more deadly.</p><p><strong>Lisa Napersky</strong></p><p>Mountain Top</p><p>Action Together NEPA Board of Directors</p><style>
