Uncle to face homicide charge in nephew’s fatal stabbing

<p>PLYMOUTH &#8212; Junior Fire Chief Brian Lyons looked the part Thursday evening, wearing his just-issued firefighter turnout, or bunker, coat.</p><p>Chief Brian Oppelt presented the coat to Brian just about an hour before the ceremony that Brian has been waiting for since he first started selling lemonade for $1 a cup. Brian was also wearing his firefighter helmet.</p><p>With family, friends, borough and state officials and financial supporters gathered in the Elm Hill Hose Company No. 3 fire hall Thursday evening, Brian Lyons was the center of attention.</p><p>Earlier in the day, his mother, Linda Uren, posted on Facebook &#8212; &#8220;It&#8217;s official!&#8221;</p><p>Lyons, the 10-year-old lemonade seller from Plymouth, had reached his goal of raising $9,514 &#8212; the price of a Jaws of Life device for the fire company on Vine Street.</p><p>Genesis Rescue Systems of Dayton, Ohio, delivered the device to Lyons, who in turn presented it to Oppelt and the fire company.</p><p>With Brian sitting at about $7,500 raised on Wednesday, the final $2,000 came in &#8212; donated by AMP Global Strategies, 90 Pioneer Ave., Shavertown.</p><p>Brenda Pugh, chief executive officer at AMP Global Strategies, said the company has been following Lyons&#8217; efforts from the beginning. Pugh attended the Thursday evening ceremony and she handed him a check for $2,000.</p><p>&#8220;I&#8217;ve sold 9,500 cups of lemonade,&#8221; Brian said.</p><p>&#8220;I guess that means I just bought 2,000 cups,&#8221; Pugh joked. &#8220;We decided we had to do this. Brian&#8217;s tenacity and hard work is so inspiring. There was no way we were going to let him accept that device today without reaching his goal.&#8221;</p><p>Pugh said she thanked Brian&#8217;s mother, Linda Uren, &#8220;for raising an amazing young man.&#8221;</p><p>Pugh added, &#8220;We have to get behind him. Our motto at AMP is we live here, we work here, so we give here.&#8221;</p><p>When Fred Laverdi, a sales representative with Genesis Rescue Systems, opened the box containing the Jaws of Life, he had Brian be the first person to start it and operate it. Brian&#8217;s face lit up with a smile from ear to ear.</p><p>Here&#8217;s what Brian posted on his Facebook page:</p><p>&#8221;Thank you for all of the nice things you guys are saying. It was worth every minute of my life doing this because maybe it will save someone else&#8217;s life one day.&#8221;</p><p>Brian then presented the device, known by its official name as the Genesis 15-C Combination Tool, to Oppelt.</p><p>&#8220;We knew this day was going to happen,&#8221; Oppelt said. &#8220;But we didn&#8217;t expect it to happen in five weeks. Brian&#8217;s determination and hard work made this happen. Now, we hope to put this on the fire truck and never have to use it. But it&#8217;s good to know we have it and can use it to save someone&#8217;s life.&#8221;</p><p>Brian&#8217;s mother said she and Brian visited a lot of fire houses and Brian noticed that most of them had a Jaws of Life device.</p><p>&#8220;He asked me why Elm Hill didn&#8217;t have one and I told him they were very expensive,&#8221; she said. &#8220;He said he was going to sell lemonade for a dollar a cup to raise the money and here we are. I never doubted him.&#8221;</p><p>Robert Morgan, deputy chief of staff for U.S. Rep.
