<p>WRIGHT TWP. &#8212; Nearly three hours after Wilkes-Barre Area linebacker Aiden Redding scored the first touchdown in the program&#8217;s history, another attempt at history fell just inches short.</p><p>WBA quarterback Kam Taylor was stopped just before the goal line on a two-point run in overtime as Crestwood held on for a 28-27 victory Friday night, handing the Wolfpack a loss in their first-ever football game.</p><p>After Crestwood took a 28-21 lead on a 1-yard run by running back Ryan Miller and kicker Alex Romanoski&#8217;s extra point, WBA got its first chance in overtime. The Wolfpack scored on their first play as receiver Rafael McCoy darted around the left side for a 10-yard TD run.</p><p>The Wolfpack then decided to try to end the game with a two-point attempt. They loaded up the formation on the right and Taylor took a snap from shotgun formation and raced left. He slipped an initial tackler before he was stopped with no signal from the officiating crew.</p><p>WBA players poured onto the field to celebrate only for the officials to decide a few seconds later that Taylor failed to break the goal line.</p><p>&#8220;It was a great effort,&#8221; WBA coach Ciro Cinti said. &#8220;Every time they scored, we answered the bell. Our kids never quit. That&#8217;s what we&#8217;ve been trying to strive for since day one. And they proved it.</p><p>&#8220;At the end there, the coaching staff was confident in going for the win and that&#8217;s what we did. I thought he was in, but you know what, I&#8217;m not an official.&#8221;</p><p>The defensive stand ended a crazy game.</p><p>Crestwood ran 48 plays in the first half compared to 11 by WBA, yet the teams went into the locker rooms tied 21-21. That was because the Wolfpack scored in all three phases of the game.</p><p>The first was defense as linebacker Corey Brown forced a fumble and Redding scooped up the loose ball and scored from 18 yards out, leading to a 7-7 tie at 1:16 of the first quarter.</p><p>&#8220;It was an amazing feeling,&#8221; said Redding, a senior who attends Coughlin. &#8220;I didn&#8217;t expect it to be me. But I saw the ball come over to me and I just picked it up and ran.&#8221;</p><p>Then after Crestwood took a 14-7 lead at 9:16 of the second quarter, McCoy returned the ensuing kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown to knot the game again.</p><p>WBA struck again quickly after the Comets went up 21-14 with 1:29 until halftime. Five plays later, WBA quarterback Talee Swinney found receiver Malachi Williams wide open for a 44-yard touchdown.</p><p>Neither teams scored in the second half a both had short field goal attempts bang off the left upright.</p><p>Miller&#8217;s final carry of the game gave him 136 yards on 30 rushes as Crestwood piled up 333 yards to WBA&#8217;s 193. It also gave new coach Ryan Arcangeli his first victory.</p><p>&#8220;Oh my goodness, unbelievable effort,&#8221; Arcangeli said. &#8220;I&#8217;m so happy for our kids, I&#8217;m so happy for our coaches. An unbelievable staff.
