<p>HAZLETON &#8212; A Hazleton man is jailed on $2 million bail on charges he supplied fentanyl that killed his lifelong friend earlier this year, according to court records.</p><p>Jose Contes, 31, was charged with a single count of drug delivery resulting in death after city police detectives investigated the death of Ryan Malloy, 25, on Jan. 26.</p><p>Malloy&#8217;s body was found in a vehicle parked across from Contes&#8217; residence at 694 Seybert St.</p><p>Police said Malloy was dead for about 10 hours before his body was found.</p><p>According to the criminal complaint:</p><p>Police responded to Seybert Street for a report of an unresponsive man, identified as Malloy, inside a vehicle. A deputy coroner estimated Malloy was dead for approximately 10 hours.</p><p>A toxicology test revealed Malloy died from an overdose of fentanyl.</p><p>Malloy&#8217;s mother told police her son had been battling a heroin addiction and was clean for the past few years. She identified Contes as a lifelong friend and her son&#8217;s drug dealer, the complaint says.</p><p>Police said they recovered text messages Contes and Malloy sent to each other with the last text from Malloy at 4:08 a.m. stating, &#8220;Alright, I&#8217;m here.&#8221;</p><p>Nine minutes after the text message, police allege Contes sent a message on Facebook to a friend stating, &#8220;Hey can u call my friend&#8217;s mom for me cause he&#8217;s passed out on the driver&#8217;s side of the car and I don&#8217;t want the cops to take him he will go to jail if they do,&#8221; the complaint says.</p><p>Another Facebook message Contes allegedly sent at 4:35 a.m. stated, &#8220;I&#8217;m so scared right now. He&#8217;s snoring he got out of the car to take a (expletive) and just fell down so I picked him up and put him back in the car and he won&#8217;t wake up I just hope he not oded (overdose) or something.&#8221;</p><p>When police interviewed Contes, he allegedly said Malloy asked him if he wanted to go out but Contes denied the invitation saying he had diarrhea.</p><p>About two weeks after Malloy was found dead, police allege Contes sold fentanyl and heroin during an undercover investigation. He was arrested July 13 and jailed.</p><p>During a jailhouse interview with police, Contes admitted he was with Malloy during the last minutes of his life and placed Malloy in the vehicle when he collapsed, the complaint says.</p><p>&#8220;If you sell, give, deliver or in any way provide drugs in Hazleton that leads to a death, you will be held accountable for that death,&#8221; stated Hazleton Police Chief Jerry Speziale.</p><style>
