Woman allegedly leaves kids in car to take drugs

<p>PLYMOUTH &#8212; A woman was charged with neglecting to feed a German shepherd that was taken into protective custody by a humane officer with the SPCA of Luzerne County earlier this month.</p><p>A humane officer received information Aug. 6 that two dogs were severely underweight at the home of Amanda L. Brizzy, 32, of Templeton Lane, Plymouth.</p><p>When the humane officer visited Brizzy&#8217;s residence, he spotted an emaciated German Shepherd tied to a pole with no access to food and dirty water in a dish, court records say.</p><p>A second dog is not mentioned in court records.</p><p>The dog was taken into protective custody when the humane officer was not able to contact Brizzy at the house. A warning slip was left at the front door informing Brizzy the dog was removed and to contact the SPCA.</p><p>Court records say the dog weighed 35.5 pounds when it arrived at the SPCA on Aug. 6. It was taken for an examination at the Northeast Veterinary Referral Hospital and placed on a feeding schedule.</p><p>A stool sample tested negative for parasites, court records say.</p><p>The dog was periodically weighed increasing its weight to 49.9 pounds on Aug. 15 and 55.5 pounds on Aug. 21.</p><p>Brizzy was charged with four counts of neglect of animals and two counts of cruelty to animals. The charges were filed Tuesday with District Judge Donald Whittaker in Nanticoke and mailed to Brizzy.</p><p>A preliminary hearing is scheduled on Sept. 25.</p><style>
