Wilkes-Barre Academy students start new school year

<p>King&#8217;s College recently welcomed 10 faculty members to the campus community for the 2019-20 academic year.</p><p>Katherine Filbert has been appointed assistant professor of philosophy. Filbert has previously served as a part-time instructor of philosophy at King&#8217;s and was an adjunct professor of philosophy at Villanova University. She earned her bachelor&#8217;s degree from Towson University, her master&#8217;s degree from Villanova University, and is a doctoral candidate at Villanova.</p><p>Dr. Gary Jordan has been named assistant professor of civil engineering. He has experience in teaching both graduate and undergraduate courses at multiple institutions, including the State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo, Daemen College, and the University of New Hampshire. He received his bachelor of science in engineering physics from the United States Military Academy. He holds a master of science in civil engineering and a doctor of philosophy in civil engineering from SUNY Buffalo.</p><p>Dr. Geng Liu, assistant professor of civil engineering, has held postdoctoral research positions at the University of Maine and the University of Virginia. He earned his bachelor of mechanical engineering degree at the University of Science and Technology of China, and his doctor of mechanical engineering degree at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences.</p><p>King&#8217;s graduate Tara Mangan returns to campus as instructor of environmental science. She has been a part-time instructor of psychology and environmental science at King&#8217;s since 2012. She earned her master&#8217;s degree from West Chester University.</p><p>Julie Murphy, RN, MSN, has been named assistant professor of nursing. Murphy has years of teaching experience through her time at the Wilkes-Barre Area Career and Technical Center where she was a lead instructor for medical-surgical and professional development courses. She earned her associate of applied science, nursing degree from Luzerne County Community College; bachelor of science in nursing from Pennsylvania State University; master of science in nursing, nurse practitioner from Misericordia University; master of science in nursing, nurse educator and faculty roles specialization from Drexel University; and is currently working toward her doctorate of philosophy, nursing, at Pennsylvania State University.</p><p>Dr. Amy Sliva has been appointed associate professor of computer science. She previously held the position of assistant professor of computer science and political science at Northeastern University. Most recently, Silva was a senior scientist at Charles River Analytics in Cambridge, MA. She earned her doctor of computer science degree from the University of Maryland, College Park.</p><p>Dr. Keith Vosseller was named visiting assistant professor of biology. Dr. Vosseller has teaching experience through the Drexel University College of Medicine and, most recently, at the City University of New York (CUNY) City Tech, Brooklyn. He earned his bachelor of arts in biology and zoology at Miami University, Ohio, and his doctor of molecular biology at Cornell University Medical College.</p><p>Rev. Michael Wurtz will serve as visiting assistant professor of theology. Most recently he was a doctoral fellow at the McGrath Institute for Church Life at the University of Notre Dame. Wurtz received his both his bachelor of arts in theology and his master of divinity at the University of Notre Dame. He also earned an additional master&#8217;s degree in liturgical studies at St. Johns University in Collegeville, Minn. Rev. Wurtz is currently working toward his doctor of sacred theology in sacred liturgy at the Pontifical University of Sant&#8217;Anselmo, Rome, Italy, and will defend his dissertation this fall.</p><p>Shirley Yanovich has been appointed technical professor of computer information systems. Dr. Yanovich comes to King&#8217;s with extensive experience in higher education, including positions of adjunct instructor, business department, at Pennsylvania State University, and professor, computer information systems, at Luzerne County Community College. Yanovich earned her bachelor of science in computer science and mathematics from Misericordia University, and her master of business administration, information systems technology, from the University of Scranton.</p><p>Heather Yudichak will serve as an assistant technical professor of business management. Before joining the community she was employed by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court System. She earned her bachelor&#8217;s degree from Misericordia University and her master&#8217;s degree from Marywood University.</p><style>
