Wilkes-Barre church ceiling collapse brings congregations together

<p>PLYMOUTH &#8212; They are calling it &#8220;The Welcome Home Ceremony.&#8221;</p><p>It will be held at 11 a.m. today at The Wall That Heals in Plymouth.</p><p>The Wall That Heals has been staged at Huber Stadium on the campus of the Wyoming Valley West High School off West Main Street since Wednesday. It will be there until Sunday at 3 p.m. It is open 24 hours a day and free to the public.</p><p>The Wall That Heals honors the more than 3 million Americans who served in the U.S. Armed Forces in the Vietnam War, and it bears the names of the 58,276 men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam &#8212; 75 from Luzerne County.</p><p>Clyde Peters, the Vietnam veteran who spearheaded the effort to bring The Wall to his hometown, said he especially wants to recognize the families of the seven Plymouth natives who died in Vietnam:</p><p>&#8226; David Lee, Army, killed April 22, 1969. Lee was Peters&#8217; nephew.</p><p>&#8226; Leonard Bish, Army, killed May 16, 1967.</p><p>&#8226; Sterling Coates, Marines, killed July 2, 1967.</p><p>&#8226; Frank Glowiak, Army, killed Oct. 27, 1966.</p><p>&#8226; Edison Phillips, Army, killed May 21, 1969.</p><p>&#8226; Joseph Sinkewicz, Marines, killed Feb. 26, 1968.</p><p>&#8226; Daniel Witko, Army, killed June 18, 1968.</p><p>&#8220;We offer our deepest sympathy to the families of those Plymouth residents who lost their lives in Vietnam,&#8221; Peters said. &#8220;We are bringing The Wall to Plymouth to honor those seven young men and to also honor all who died in Vietnam and in all wars.&#8221;</p><p>The Welcome Home Ceremony will feature remarks from Sen. John Yudichak, D-Plymouth Township, Rep. Gerald Mullery, D-Newport Township, and Frank Coughlin, president of Plymouth Borough Council.</p><p>Peters, representing the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1425 and a Plymouth Borough councilman, will also speak.</p><p>The Wyoming Valley West Marching Band will perform the National Anthem and other appropriate songs during the ceremony. Rev. Brian Dodson of Faith Baptist Church, Plymouth, will deliver the invocation and benediction.</p><p>The 53-foot trailer that carries The Wall That Heals transforms to become a mobile education center that features a timeline of &#8220;The War and The Wall&#8221; and provides additional information about the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Additional exhibits give visitors a better understanding of the legacy of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the collection of items left at The Wall.</p><p>Students from classes throughout Luzerne County are visiting The Wall &#8212; one class per hour &#8212; and are given a tour by Juliana Blaylock, the Honesdale native who is the outreach/site manager for The Wall That Heals.</p><p>&#8220;I love to see the kids come here to see The Wall and learn about it,&#8221; Peters said. &#8220;They get first-hand knowledge of the Vietnam War and they gain a deep understanding of who is on The Wall and what they gave to preserve our freedom.&#8221;</p><p>Peters also thanked the hundreds of volunteers who have come out to help with The Wall. He said the entire experience has shown that people can work together for their community.</p><p>&#8220;It would be great to see a big crowd for the ceremony,&#8221; Peters said. &#8220;And they can also visit The Wall and pay respects to our fallen heroes.&#8221;</p><style>
