McCoy’s four TDs power Wolfpack to rout of Nanticoke

<p>WRIGHT TWP. &#8212; A week after getting beating soundly by Dallas, Crestwood had something to prove.</p><p>The Comets proved they are a good team holding Wyoming Valley West to 31 total yards en route to defeating the Spartans 35-8 on Friday night.</p><p>The Crestwood defense, which picked up three sacks and held the Spartans to just four first downs, always seemed to be reading exactly what the Valley West offense was going to do with defensive linemen picking up tackles for losses more than 10 times. </p><p>&#8220;We had to fix the problems and we told the kids that wasn&#8217;t us. That wasn&#8217;t what we were working towards,&#8221; first-year Comets coach Ryan Arcangeli said about the mindset heading into the game after a big loss to the Mountaineers.</p><p>&#8220;We watched film last week and it was painful truths. We got beat up by a very good Dallas team. We challenged our front guys &#8230; and they answered the call. They did everything we asked them to do this week and then some. Tremendous job by our defensive line.&#8221;</p><p>The Comets (2-1) started the game forcing a pair of turnover on downs on the first two drives of the game and took advantage of both stalled drives getting the ball in Spartans territory and scoring on both to set the tone for the rest of the game.</p><p>A 6-yard TD run by quarterback Ryan Petrosky and a 3-yard TD surge by Ryan Miller in the first quarter put the Comets up 13-0 midway through the first period.</p><p>&#8220;That we&#8217;re here to play and we came ready to play today,&#8221; Petrosky said about the statement the team made with the early scores.</p><p>Petrosky threw for 103 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another 119 and a score.</p><p>Crestwood took a 20-0 lead in the second quarter on the second TD of the game by Petrosky when he found Brandon Niemenski for a 6-yard hookup with 7:30 left on the clock.</p><p>Just before halftime, the Comets went up 28-0 on Petrosky&#8217;s third score on the night when he found a streaking Jesse Zaykoski wide open in the middle of the field for a 40-yard strike.</p><p>On the opening drive of the second half, the Comets needed just 2 minutes, 10 seconds to put the mercy rule in effect on Miller&#8217;s second TD run of the evening to go up 35-0.</p><p>Miller joined Petrosky in going over the century mark racking up 112 yards and two scores on 14 carries.</p><p>&#8220;Our O-line did a fantastic job tonight blowing guys off the ball,&#8221; Petrosky said. &#8220;And were just creating gaps for me and the running backs to run the ball.&#8221;</p><p>The Spartans (1-2) got on the board in the third quarter on a safety when they blocked a Comets put and the ball sailed out of the end zone.
