Fumble return seals Lackawanna upset of No. 7 Snow

KINGSTON &#8212; The gray sky above Nesbitt Stadium was fitting in a sense because when the Peddie School shows up it&#8217;s usually a gloomy day for Wyoming Seminary football.Saturday marked yet another dominant game for Peddie against Seminary as the Falcons rolled to a 47-0 victory amidst an occasionally misty rain.Peddie, a private school in Hightstown, N.J., has outscored Seminary 253-21 in the last five meetings.&#8220;Every year, too,&#8221; Seminary coach Jim Anderson said. &#8220;They bring similar numbers, but in terms of the kids they have &#8212; and obviously it starts up front, too &#8212; they had a very good line in terms of protection. This is a team we&#8217;ve faced Week 2 of every year and you have to hand it to Chris Malleo, who&#8217;s the head coach. He&#8217;s is doing a hell of a job getting the kids that he needed.&#8221;Peddie outgained Seminary 462-8. The Falcons built a 37-0 halftime lead, and the second half was played with the mercy rule with a tweak. The third and fourth quarters were slashed to eight minutes each.Seminary&#8217;s biggest nemesis was Peddie quarterback Matt Sluka. A highly-sought Division I recruit for lacrosse, Sluka is prepping a year in hopes of landing an offer for football. The 6-foot-2, 205-pounder hit on 7-of-10 passes for 80 yards and ran for 123 yards and two scores on just six carries.Sluka made an improbable 35-yard scramble for a touchdown, picking through the Seminary defense on the way to the end zone. His 13-yard scramble for a TD a short time later was even more impressive. Several Seminary defenders had Sluka hemmed in on the left sideline, but he reversed field and ran diagonally for a touchdown.&#8220;In terms of open space, in terms of trying to (simulate that) in practice tempo for our kids in space,&#8221; Anderson said. &#8220;When you see it, there were times we were two yards away and might as well have been 10 yards away.&#8221;Seminary (1-1) started the game well as quarterback Adam Honis hit on a couple passes for a total of 20 yards. But a sack was followed by a fumble and the Blue Knights were in trouble early.Five plays after the fumble, Peddie running back David Egbe ran 15 yards for the Falcons&#8217; first touchdown. Peddie scored on its next four possessions and an errant Seminary shotgun snap led to a safety for a 37-0 lead at halftime.Egbe opened the third quarter with a 67-yard run &#8212; part of his 116 rushing yards &#8212; and scored three plays later.
