HANOVER TWP. &#8212; The first series of Hanover Area&#8217;s game against Western Wayne Friday was indictative of how the night would go for the Hawkeyes.Hanover Area had held the Wildcats to what appeared to be a three-and-out to open the action.The Hawkeyes were set to get the ball as Western Wayne lined up in punt formation on a fourth and six. However, the Wildcats snapped the ball to the upman, Zane Janiszewski, who rumbled for 18 yards and a first down at the Hanover Area 37.Six plays later, Janiszewski rushed in for a touchdown from 14 yards out, putting Western Wayne on the road to a 48-0 victory over the Hawkeyes.&#8220;We come out and we are pretty pumped up and ready to play,&#8221; Hanover Area Coach Rick Hummer said. &#8220;Then we lose our minds. That little fake punt that we had &#8230; If our D-end comes out and brings that back to our inside guys, we have it.&#8220;It&#8217;s just the small little things that we have to start working on.&#8221;From there, Western Wayne just continued to roll. The Wildcats led 27-0 at the end of the first quarter and 41-0 at half.&#8220;That&#8217;s a great team,&#8221; Hummer said. &#8220;They just dominated us on the line, up and down the field. We knew they were good. We knew they were strong.&#8220;They have a good future over there. They&#8217;re going on a run into the playoffs because they&#8217;re tough.&#8221;For the game the Wildcats rushed for 323 yards with Janiszewski and Caleb Brungard leading the way.Janiszewski was the workhorse, finishing with 86 yards on nine carries, while Brungard ran for 157 yards on just four carries. His big blows were a 71-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and a 6-yard blast in the second.Offensively, the Hawkeyes&#8217; bright spot was kick returner Bobby Sabecky, who came close to breaking long returns several times during the game.&#8220;We were out there quite a bit,&#8221; Hummer said of his return team.The Hawkeyes offense struggled moving the ball all night, finishing with just 32 yards rushing and 42 yards passing.&#8220;We are having some trouble throwing the ball right now, and all you have to do is put eight guys in the box and that&#8217;s it,&#8221; Hummer said. &#8220;Offensive line-wise it&#8217;s hard to block eight guys.
