DA’s office receives $250K grant for gun violence reduction task force

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; A Nanticoke man who twice violated a restraining order by terrorizing an ex-girlfriend pleaded guilty to assaulting her in Hanover Township.</p><p>Nicholas Edward Suprum, 18, of West Green Street, pleaded guilty to simple assault in connection to body-slamming the girl and shoving her against a fence on Woodbury Street on Feb. 27.</p><p>Suprum entered the guilty plea before Luzerne County Judge Michael T. Vough, who scheduled a sentencing hearing Oct. 25.</p><p>Prosecutors withdrew three counts of simple assault, two counts each of reckless endangerment and harassment and one count each of criminal mischief and disorderly conduct against Suprum.</p><p>Township police arrested Suprum after the girl claimed he assaulted her. She told police Suprum body-slammed her several times and punched her in the chest, court records say.</p><p>Police said a video surveillance camera on Woodbury Street recorded Suprum holding the girl in the air and attempting to body-slam her on a sidewalk. Suprum grabbed and shoved the girl into a fence.</p><p>As the girl held onto the fence, Suprum pulls her away, throws her to the ground and then stands over here. A resident of Woodbury Street exited her house resulting in Suprum taking an aggressive stance toward the resident.</p><p>Video shows Suprum shaking the fence, grabbing the girl&#8217;s legs and walking out of view only to later show the girl running away and being chased by Suprum, court records say.</p><p>After the incident, the girl obtained a no-hit protection-from-abuse order against Suprum, who twice violated the restraining order, according to court records.</p><p>Suprum was sentenced to six months in jail on the PFA violations. He remains jailed at the county correctional facility. </p><style>
