<p>PLYMOUTH &#8212; Plymouth Mayor Tom McTague passed away at the Birchwood Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Nanticoke on Friday morning. He was 80.</p><p>McTague had been experiencing some health difficulties for a little while that led to him being placed in Birchwood.</p><p>A lifelong resident of Plymouth, McTague ascended to the mayor&#8217;s office in 2018 after serving from 1994 to 2015 on the borough council. He also wore many different hats for the borough, serving as a police officer and a criminal investigator for the Luzerne County Public Defender&#8217;s Office.</p><p>&#8220;He loved Plymouth, he&#8217;d do anything for the borough,&#8221; said borough Councilman John Thomas, who is also a former chief of police.</p><p>&#8220;Tommy worked for me as a police officer, criminal investigator and dispatcher &#8230; He was an excellent investigator, whenever he got the call he was like a hound dog.&#8221;</p><p>As the mayor of Plymouth, McTague oversaw the promotion of Anthony Gorey to police chief, and added two new full-time patrolman positions to the police department.</p><p>McTague leaves behind a son, Tom McTague Jr., as well as a daughter Sara, a brother Robert and two sisters Elizabeth Cooper and Kathleen Kennedy.</p><p>A viewing is scheduled for Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Kielty-Moran Funeral Home in Plymouth, and a Mass of Christian Burial is planned for Wednesday at 10 a.m. at All Saints Parish.</p><style>
