<p>The Office of Service-Learning at Misericordia University is hosting its fourth in a series of free community education lectures designed to deepen the understanding of critical community-wide issues and how dedicated organizations in the region are tackling those issues.</p><p>Jason Harlen, M.A., C.A.D.C., CEO of Wyoming Valley Alcohol and Drug Services, Inc., will discuss strategies for dealing with addiction on Tuesday, Oct. 22 from noon to 1 p.m. in the Catherine Evans McGowan Room of the Mary Kintz Bevevino Library. Harlen will speak about the challenges of dealing with addiction and address some of the barriers and problems people face when asking for and getting help. He will offer strategies that help get people into treatment, highlighting ones that are most effective in supporting individuals with addiction challenges.</p><p>Harlen has been assisting families and individuals who suffer from substance use disorders for the past 17 years. His experience includes counseling, clinical supervision, prevention and education, executive management and other tasks associated with the substance abuse field. In addition, he has extensive experience working with people who suffer from gambling addiction.</p><p>Guests are invited to bring their lunch to the program.
