<p>BEAR CREEK TWP. &#8212; When Lorianne Masi moved into her new house in January, she made a life-saving decision.</p><p>Masi lives in Bear Creek Township, with her daughter, Eva, 4, and their two dogs, Jax and Roxy.</p><p>One of her first decisions was to install an ADT security/monitoring system in her home.</p><p>On Aug. 22, Masi, her daughter and the two dogs were asleep when they were awakened by a phone call.</p><p>An emergency dispatcher from ADT&#8217;s Florida monitoring center &#8212; Haleigh Powers &#8212; called to warn of carbon monoxide. They had seconds to get out as the &#8220;silent killer&#8221; was spreading throughout the home from a leaky gas oven which could also have caused an explosion.</p><p>When first responders arrived, they shut off the gas and aired out the home.</p><p>&#8220;Had our dispatcher not called, they never would have woke up,&#8221; said Bob Tucker, spokesperson for ADT.</p><p>Tucker said readings for carbon monoxide in the home were 20 to 30 parts per million &#8212; &#8220;extremely high,&#8221; Tucker said.</p><p>Tucker said the source was a leaky propane gas stove, which has since been replaced.</p><p>Tucker was at the Masi home Thursday, along with Haleigh Powers, the alert ADT dispatcher.</p><p>&#8220;When I got the call, we were told to leave the house immediately and we did,&#8221; Masi said. &#8220;We waited outside for the fire department to arrive.&#8221;</p><p>Masi and Powers had an emotional meeting &#8212; they hugged and cried.</p><p>&#8220;What do you say to someone who saved your life and your daughter&#8217;s life?&#8221; Masi said. &#8220;There aren&#8217;t enough words to say how grateful I am.&#8221;</p><p>Powers said she started working for ADT in July, about one month before the Masi alert came across her computer terminal. She said a red bar came up on her screen, indicating a serious problem.</p><p>&#8220;When this happens, we notify the client and if there&#8217;s no response, we then dispatch emergency personnel,&#8221; Powers said. &#8220;This was very emotional for me. I have a sister and nieces who I love and want to be safe in their home as well. I would hope that all dispatchers would be as assertive when an emergency situation arises.&#8221;</p><p>Bear Creek Fire Chief John Krumsky, a 25-year veteran of the department, said he was glad everything worked out for the family.</p><p>For his department&#8217;s response, ADT presented Krumsky with a $5,000 check for the department.</p><p>&#8220;We&#8217;re going to use this money to purchase new breathing air packs,&#8221; Krumsky said. &#8220;We have about 20 volunteers in the department.&#8221;</p><p>Krumsky said when the firefighters arrived on the scene they entered the home and checked for leaks. They soon determined the source was the propane-fed stove.</p><p>Tucker said as the weather cools, more residents will be turning on heating devices which could cause carbon monoxide.
