Local College Football: Wilkes routs Alvernia to remain unbeaten

Alex Wesneski scored two goals, but Eastern erupted with five goals in the second half Saturday to win a 7-4 shootout with Wyoming Seminary, handing the defending PIAA Class A champion Blue Knights their first loss in 14 games this season during a high school field hockey game in the Eastern Classic in Voorhees, N.J.Ryleigh Heck had four goals in the victory and Maura Somers scored twice in the second half as Eastern, the No. 2-ranked team in the New Jersey Region by Max Field Hockey, pulled away and into a 7-3 lead with six minutes remaining in the game.Wesneski&#8217;s first goal pulled Sem, ranked No. 8 in Pennsylvania by Max Field Hockey, within 2-1 with 6:20 to play in the opening half.But Heck registered two of her three second-half goals in the opening nine minutes of the half and added her third goal after intermission at the halfway mark of the second half as Eastern built a 5-2 lead.Dani Reiser and Emma Watchilla also scored for Sem to pull the Blue Knights within 5-3 with 7:45 remaining, but Somers answered with two straight goals to put the game away. Hannah Maxwell and Ella Barbacci had assists in the game for Sem.The Blue Knights faced Sacred Heart, Kentucky in another battle later Saturday.Wyoming Area 6, Lackawanna Trail 0Lauren Parente had a hat trick while hitting her 100th career goal as the Warriors won a battle of WVC second-place teams in a non-league game.Parente scored twice in the first half and once more in the second to reach her scoring milestone.Toni Minichello added two goals and Kayla Kiwak scored on a penalty stroke to go with her two assists for Wyoming Area, which is a half-game behind 10-0 Wyoming Sem in the WVC Division 1.Lilly Rejrat stopped 18 shots for Trail, which is trailing Northwest by a half-game in race for the WVC Division 2 title.GIRLS TENNISWyoming Sem 5, West Scranton 0Ella Krypel swept her way to victory in the top singles match and the Blue Knights had little trouble taking care of West Scranton in a District 2 Class 2A team quarterfinal match.Krypel downed C.J. Grasso, 6-1, 6-3 to start the sweep.
