<p>A season of pain wound up as pure pleasure for Tim O&#8217;Donnell</p><p>The Shavertown native celebrated it with his best finish ever in the Ironman World Championships.</p><p>O&#8217;Donnell placed second overall and was the first American across the finish line Saturday at the Ironman in Kona, Hawaii, completing the grueling course in 7:59:41.</p><p>That was just behind Jan Frodeno, who won his third Ironman World Championship with a time of 7:51:13 in the 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride and full marathon.</p><p>It was just the third triathlon of the season for O&#8217;Donnell, a Wyoming Seminary graduate who suffered through broken ribs earlier this year and overcame a recent foot injury to turn in his finest Ironman finish.</p><p>The 39-year-old current resident of Boulder, Col. placed third in Hawaii in 2015, had a fourth-place finish last year, wound up fifth in 2013 and sixth in 2016 and recorded his first top-10 finish by crossing the line eighth in 2012.</p><p>Saturday was the third time O&#8217;Donnell finished as the US pro men&#8217;s champion, after also earning that title in 2011 and 2012. O&#8217;Donnell also won the 2009 ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Championship<strong>.</strong></p><style>
