‘Mini Indicators’ talk spotlights economic trends

<p>PLYMOUTH &#8212; Tiffany Brunson is a Democrat, but she won the Republican nomination in the race in Region 1 of the Wyoming Valley West School Board.</p><p>Brunson, 37 of Plymouth, is facing incumbent Democrat Joseph Mazur in the November general election.</p><p>Brunson said she entered the race because she wants to bring a fresh perspective, diversity, and an intimate understanding of the issues a family with school aged children face daily. If elected, Brunson said she would be the youngest and only female WVW board member.</p><p>&#8220;I feel that we are at a critical time in our district where someone such as myself is needed,&#8221; Brunson said. &#8220;I would work to establish a culturally diverse and open-minded approach to the issues we face so students, parents, and staff, are heard and acknowledged, thus paving the way so we can work together for a common goal.&#8221;</p><p>Brunson said she would like to bring greater transparency to the school board and improve communication with parents as well as the community. She said she would push to have the board meetings live streamed so all can be involved in the decision-making process.</p><p>&#8220;I would work to lower taxes by applying for the government grants that our district is eligible for, but has yet to partake in,&#8221; Brunson said. &#8220;I would work to explore all options and avenues to alleviate our districts chronic financial issues that are ultimately passed along to the community.&#8221;</p><p>Brunson said with her strong business background, she would be adept at solving complex financial issues, identifying the root cause, and applying a unique perspective to meet the district&#8217;s financial needs without placing the burden on the already over-taxed community.</p><p>&#8220;We currently have a bus stop routing discrepancy that many parents feel does not fit the needs of our district,&#8221; she said. &#8220;I plan on stepping in and adjusting the bus stop routing so that day care children are included, and to make sure we are placing our bus stops in safe areas and in the most cost-effective manner.&#8221;</p><p>Brunson said she would open the Wyoming Valley West Wellness Center on Wadham Street in Plymouth to the public, &#8220;for which it was intended.&#8221; She said the school district received grants several years ago to turn the former St. Stephen&#8217;s Church into a community center with meeting rooms and exercise equipment for the community to use.</p><style>
