Doyle McManus: Foreign policy is on the 2020 ballot, right alongside Trump

<p>DURYEA &#8212; Staff, guests and media are gathered at Schott North America Inc. this afternoon to hear from Vice President Mike Pence, who is making a private visit to the facility.</p><p>Pence is visiting to acknowledge the 50th anniversary of the Duryea site and to promote passage of USMCA &#8212; the United States Canada Mexico Agreement &#8212; which supporters say will create mutually beneficial trade leading to freer markets, fairer trade, and robust economic growth in North America.</p><p>Pence arrived at Schott just before 4 p.m. and was taken on a tour along with a number of people, including Rep. Dan Meuser, R-Dallas. Pence is slated to speak after the tour is complete.</p><p>Between 300 and 350 people are present in the audience.</p><p>National Association of Manufacturers President and CEO Jay Timmons also was slated to be among those touring the plant with Pence.</p><p>&#8220;Twenty-five years ago, the North American Free Trade Agreement helped expand access to Canada and Mexico, but our industry has transformed since then,&#8221; Timmons said in a prepared statement released during the visit. &#8220;NAFTA is now in need of an update&#8212;a new set of standards for the 21st-century economy&#8212;which is exactly why the administration negotiated the USMCA.&#8221;</p><p>&#8220;Now it&#8217;s time for Congress to pass it.&#8221; Timmons added.</p><p>Check back for updates and see Tuesday&#8217;s Times Leader for more on the story.</p><style>
