<p>It had been a decade since San Antonio had visited Mohegan Sun Arena. But there was no feeling-out process between the Rampage and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Friday night.</p><p>The Penguins came out firing with a big first period before being shut down by their Western Conference foe in a 5-3 loss.</p><p>Hosting San Antonio for the first time since Feb. 6, 2009, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (3-4-1-0) scored three times in a span of five shots in the first period but got nothing the rest of the way in the loss.</p><p>Scoring leader Stefan Noesen opened things up before Joseph Cramarossa and Andrew Agozzino also beat Rampage goalie Ville Husso in rapid succession in the opening frame.</p><p>In between the Penguins&#8217; second two goals, however, Nathan Walker got San Antonio on the board. And what was a 3-1 deficit after the first period, the Rampage took over on the power play in the second period.</p><p>With Matt Abt in the box for high sticking, Walker scored his second of the night just 13 seconds into the middle period. Klim Kostin then tied it up on another man-advantage four minutes later when Agozzino went off for interference.</p><p>Mitch Reinke scored what proved to be the game-winner at the 7:04 mark of the second and the Penguins never recovered.</p><p>Rookie Emil Larmi started in net and gave up four goals on 29 shots before being replaced in the second intermission by veteran Casey DeSmith.</p><p>Wilkes-Barre/Scranton held San Antonio to just six shots in the third period, but the Rampage added their third power-play goal of the night courtesy of Nick Lappin.</p><p>Penguins alum Derrick Pouliot, a former No. 8 overall draft pick for Pittsburgh, picked up a pair of assists.</p><p>Defenseman Macoy Erkamps had two assists for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Also earning helpers were Jon Lizotte, Chase Berger, Michael Kim and Brandon Hawkins.</p><p>Wilkes-Barre/Scranton will get another crack at San Antonio tonight for a 7:05 p.m. rematch at Mohegan Sun Arena.</p><p><strong>New blood</strong></p><p>A trade by Pittsburgh earlier in the day brought in a new forward for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.</p><p>Pittsburgh sent defenseman Erik Gudbranson to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Andreas Martinsen and a seventh-round draft pick, a move made primarily to clear salary cap space for the big club.</p><p>Martinsen, 29, was assigned to the AHL after the move. He had appeared in one game this season for the San Diego Gulls.</p><p>At 6-foot-2, 225 pounds, Martinsen is a former German league veteran who broke into the NHL with the Colorado Avalanche in 2015-16. He has 41 points in 113 career AHL games (16 goals, 25 assists) and has previously played for San Antonio, Rockford and San Diego.</p><p>Wilkes-Barre/Scranton could also be getting reinforcements on the blue line as Zach Trotman was officially placed on waivers Friday with his conditioning stint now over.</p><p>Trotman had been recovering from sports hernia surgery and he can officially join Wilkes-Barre/Scranton if no NHL teams put in a claim for him by noon today.</p><p>The Penugins have also brought back another familiar face in defenseman Reid McNeill, who signed a professional tryout agreement with the AHL squad on Friday. McNeill has appeared in 190 career games with the Penguins.</p><style>
