Their view: Modern high school math should be about data science — not Algebra 2

<p>As a business owner for 33 years in Wilkes-Barre, and former resident of District B for 14 years, I wholeheartedly endorse Mark Shaffer for City Council and encourage all residents in District B to vote for the Democratic candidate on Nov. 5.</p><p>Mark Shaffer has a vision, common-sense policies and understands the issues facing the working people in our city. Neglected roads and infrastructure, absentee landlords and blight, the opioid crisis and misuse of funding to benefit a few at the expense of the majority are the priorities that Mr. Shaffer will address.</p><p>My love and commitment to Wilkes-Barre is strong and deep, but we clearly have a problem with a lack of creativity and foresight. Responsible young people with fresh ideas and energy are needed to make Wilkes-Barre thrive. I urge voters to contact Mark directly. He is accessible, knowledgeable and optimistic about the future of Wilkes-Barre.</p><p>The good old boy network and favoritism for special interests and pet projects continue to thwart what I know can be a thriving and positive community.
