‘I told you so’ win for Nats

<p>COVINGTON TWP. &#8211; The number of consecutive district titles for the Holy Redeemer girls volleyball team stands at 13 &#8211; or, 14, if you go back one more year and count the final Bishop Hoban championship.</p><p>It is much easier to count the number of Royals who had district championship match experience prior to Thursday night.</p><p>That would be one &#8211; senior captain Livia Moore.</p><p>Holy Redeemer made sure Moore was not just the best player on the floor, but also the busiest as she filled many roles while leading the Royals to their latest championship with a 25-19, 25-19, 25-22 sweep of Dunmore at North Pocono High School in the Class 2A tournament.</p><p>Moore had 27 kills, four blocks, three assists, seven digs and 11 service points. What doesn&#8217;t show in those numbers is that she also handled more than her share of the work in receiving Dunmore serves.</p><p>&#8220;I do a lot for the team, but my main goal is the to be the mental leader, making sure everyone stays in a good frame of mind,&#8221; Moore said. &#8220;I do a lot of physical things on the court, but that&#8217;s something I take as being real important; as my number one.&#8221;</p><p>That trait was needed at times when Dunmore applied pressure and when Wyoming Valley Conference champion Holy Redeemer needed to recover from its own mistakes.</p><p>&#8220;It wasn&#8217;t our best (match),&#8221; Moore said, &#8220;but I think what made it real good was we were able to work through.&#8221;</p><p>That was most true in the final set.</p><p>Dunmore led 14-9.</p><p>Abby Lapinski, the team&#8217;s other captain, stopped a four-point streak by the Lady Bucks with a block.</p><p>Moore took it from there. She had her team&#8217;s next five points on a block and kills in which she mixed showing off her power on sets by Lapinski and a bit more touch in placing the ball once she had Dunmore out of position.</p><p>Lapinski then served five straight points, completing a 10-2 run to a 19-16 lead.</p><p>&#8220;It definitely wasn&#8217;t our strongest coming out, but we knew how to play through and play how we do at practice,&#8221; Lapinski said.</p><p>Lapinski contributed 25 assists, five kills, four digs and a dozen service points.</p><p>Rose Hayward had eight points and Sydney Rush seven.</p><p>&#8220;We still found a way to squeak it out,&#8221; Royals coach John Kablick said. &#8220;I think it was the magnitude of the (match). It didn&#8217;t matter than we&#8217;ve beaten Del Valley, Nanticoke, Berwick and played a super, super tough exhibition schedule.</p><p>&#8220;It was just the matter of it being a district final. The only one who had played in one was Liv Moore. The other nine or 10 people in the rotation have never been in this kind of a situation.&#8221;</p><p>By making it through, Holy Redeemer advances to the state tournament, which opens Tuesday.</p><style>
