<p>SLOCUM TWP &#8212; Halloween has come and gone, but that was never going to stop the children of Mountain Top from getting their fill of candy and fun on Sunday.</p><p>The Slocum Township Fire Hall hosted its third annual trunk or treat on Sunday afternoon at the fire hall.</p><p>Neighborhood children, escorted by parents, came out in droves to collect goodies from more than 20 different vehicles. The vehicles included two fire trucks and even a hearse, adding to the spooky feel.</p><p>Most everybody, children and even some parents showed up dressed to the nines in their finest Halloween attire. Witches and masked men, princesses and police officers abounded as everyone tried their best to keep the Halloween spirit alive, even if it was actually three days past the official holiday.</p><p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve been doing this for three years, and this year luckily we had a rain date,&#8221; said Sean O&#8217;Neill, the president of the Slocum Township Fire Hall. &#8220;Last year, we had to do it inside.&#8221;</p><p>The weather may not have cooperated on Thursday, but Sunday was a lovely autumn day, with a chill in the air and the sun shining bright.</p><p>Even so, it didn&#8217;t seem like another day of bad weather would deter the kids, who were just excited for another attempt to get their Halloween candy fix.</p><p>Kelli Valaitis and her son, Ethan, weren&#8217;t perturbed by the fact that they were celebrating Halloween in November.</p><p>&#8220;He [Ethan] is too young to care. He just wants his candy,&#8221; Valaitis said.</p><p>&#8220;It doesn&#8217;t bother us doing this after Halloween. It&#8217;s all about the kids,&#8221; O&#8217;Neill added.</p><p>Valaitis and her son have been a fixture at various trunk or treats across the valley.</p><p>&#8220;I think we&#8217;ve done one every weekend in October, and now we&#8217;re here,&#8221; Valaitis said.</p><p>This particular trunk or treat did have one particularly unique feature: at the Ken Pollock trunk, instead of handing out candy, Michelle Makarewicz was handing out McDonald&#8217;s Happy Meals.</p><p>&#8220;I saw the idea on Pinterest and decided to bring it to life,&#8221; Makarewicz said.</p><p>She also offered her opinion on the celebration of Halloween three days after the fact.</p><p>&#8220;I think that more kids come out when it&#8217;s not Halloween because they don&#8217;t have anywhere else to be.&#8221;</p><style>
