<p>HANOVER TWP. &#8212; The Loomis Substation, UGI&#8217;s brand new Northeastern Pennsylvania substation, was recently powered up for the first time, according to a press release.</p><p>The substation, located near the Hanover Industrial Park, will serve to accommodate the growing electrical needs of the NEPA area.</p><p>According to UGI principal project engineer James Streznetcky, the Loomis station is the first newly constructed substation for UGI&#8217;s electric division since 1978, and their 14th overall.</p><p>It&#8217;s located adjacent to the site of the Loomis Colliery, an old mine site that was closed down due to a strong presence of gas and a lack of efficient ventilation. The mine closed down for good in 1967 and was demolished in 1974.</p><p>The station took about a year to plan out, and entered into service in late September.</p><p style="text-align: right;"><em> &#8212; Staff report</em></p><style>
