Ruby Mattson is wrapping up a standout career with the Grove City women&#8217;s soccer team.The 5-foot-4 midfielder has started all 18 games for the Wolverines, who finished the regular season with a 10-6-2 record and are set to play in the Presidents&#8217; Athletic Conference Tournament championship for the eighth straight year when they host Chatham on Saturday.Mattson, a Dallas grad, has 10 goals and five assists for 25 points and a team-high four game winners. She had a big performance in the team&#8217;s last two games with a goal and an assist in a 7-0 victory over St. Vincent on Oct. 30 and an assist on the first goal in a 2-1 triumph over Washington &amp; Jefferson last Saturday. Both were league games.Grove City beat W&amp;J again on Tuesday in the league semifinals. Mattson had three shots in the 2-0 win.A two-time All-PAC first team pick and an All-ECAC Division III first-team choice last season, Mattson has played in 87 games with 87 starts for the Wolverines. She has 31 goals and 15 assists for 71 points with nine game winners.&#8220;Ruby is one of the most skilled players ever to come through our program,&#8221; coach Melissa Lamie said. &#8220;She is a threat to affect the game every time she touches the ball. Our opponents have to pay attention to her, and that takes some pressure off our other attacking players.&#8221;The coach said that Mattson &#8220;is a tireless worker on the field&#8221; and never runs out of energy.&#8220;Ruby was an immediate starter from day one and our overall team success reflects her being in a Wolverine uniform the past four years,&#8221; Lamie said.Lydia Lawson (Elizabethtown)The 5-foot-4 senior was named the Landmark Conference Offensive Player of the Week in women&#8217;s soccer on Monday, her fourth award of the season. The Holy Redeemer graduate scored her 59th career goal in a 1-0 victory over Moravian on Oct. 30 and had a goal and an assist in a 3-0 triumph over Catholic last Saturday. It was her 60th career goal, a school record.Lawson has 20 goals and five assists for 45 points with eight game winners this season for the Blue Jays, who were set to take on Scranton Wednesday for the conference championship. The game winners are tied for third in Division III.Jordan Olenginski (St. Joseph&#8217;s)The 5-foot-3 junior forward has started all 18 games for the field hockey team, the Hawks 15-3 overall and finished the regular Atlantic-10 Conference schedule with an 8-0 mark. The Crestwood graduate is second on the team with 10 goals. She also has three assists for 23 points with two game winners.St. Joseph&#8217;s is the No. 1 seed in the league tourney and will play Lock Haven in a first round game Friday in Richmond, Va. The Hawks warmed up for the tourney by taking No. 1 North Carolina to overtime on the road on Sunday in a 3-2 loss.Cole Dixon (Susquehanna)The senior and fellow linebacker David Simpson, both Dallas graduates, continue to key the defense for the football team, the River Hawks 7-1 overall and 6-1 in the Centennial Conference after a 56-13 league victory over Gettysburg last Saturday.The 6-foot, 200-pound Dixon had four tackles and half a sack and has 63 tackles, including 37 unassisted, with a fumble recovery and 2 &#189; sacks. The 5-foot-10, 220-pound Simpson had five tackles and a forced fumble and has 39 tackles on the season.Angela Falcone (King&#8217;s)The 5-foot-6 defensive midfielder had a solid first season with the women&#8217;s soccer team. Falcone, from Pittston and a Scranton Prep graduate, played in all 17 games with 16 starts for the Monarchs. Falcone had two goals on the season.She scored her first collegiate goal in a 2-1 victory over Penn College in the season-opener on Aug. 30. Her other goal came in a 5-0 triumph over Neumann on Sept. 28.Bree Bednarski (Penn State)The 5-foot-3 junior forward has played in all 17 games with eight starts for the field hockey team, the Nittany Lions finishing the regular season with a 6-11 overall record and posted a 4-4 mark in the Big Ten Conference.The Wyoming Area graduate has two goals and an assist, the goals coming in an 8-2 victory over Villanova and a 2-1 loss to Ohio State. Penn State will face Michigan in a first round tournament game Thursday in State College.Dominic Hockenbury (Syracuse)The junior finished 19th out of 134 runners for the Orange&#8217;s men&#8217;s cross country team at the ACC championships last Friday in Blacksburg, Va. His 8,000-meter time was 24:53.8 and he was one place short of scoring for Syracuse, which captured its sixth title in seven years.The Lake-Lehman graduate finished 25th (24:21.5) at the ACC meet as a sophomore and finished 20th (24:01.4) in the meet as a freshman.Grace Giza (Bloomsburg)The women&#8217;s volleyball team is getting solid play out of the 6-foot-3 sophomore middle blocker. The Wyoming Valley West graduate leads the team in total blocks with 71 and is second in kills with 230. She has 10 double-figure kills matches with a high of 15 and has twice posted 7 total blocks on the season.Giza also has 34 digs and 10 service aces. She had 11 kills and five total blocks in a 3-0 league loss to West Chester last Saturday.Julie Murphy (Wilkes)The 5-foot-3 defensive specialist wrapped up her career with the women&#8217;s volleyball team as the Crestwood graduate led the team with 410 digs in 31 matches and 104 sets and finished with 767 digs in her four-year career.She had season-highs digs for five sets (26), four sets (30) and three sets (18). Murphy also had 64 assists and 14 service aces.Melo Pioquinto (Keystone)The 5-foot-4, 165-pound senior defender earned a spot on the Colonial States Athletic Conference All-Sportsmanship team for the 12-4-1 men&#8217;s soccer team, the Giants turning back Cairn 3-1 in the league semifinals last Saturday and will face Rosemont in the championship game Saturday in Langhorne.The Nanticoke graduate picked up a pair of assists during the season.Melissa Herrera (East Stroudsburg)The freshman leads the women&#8217;s soccer team in scoring and she&#8217;s doing it coming off the bench. The Crestwood graduate has seven goals and three assists for 17 points with a game-winner.Herrera had a goal and two assists in a 7-0 triumph over Mansfield on Oct. 23 in East Stroudsburg. Her game winner came when she scored all the goals in a 3-0 victory over Kutztown on Sept. 14. The No. 23-ranked Warriors are 12-4 overall and 11-3 in PSAC East play and have already earned a league tourney bid.<style>
