WBRE unveils new state-of-the art studio

<p>SWEET VALLEY &#8212; Everybody can appreciate the feel of a warm quilt on a cold night.</p><p>One local business wants to help ensure that those who serve our country can appreciate that feeling, with love and gratitude included.</p><p>118 Fabrics &amp; More, on State Route 118 in Sweet Valley, is an official Quilts of Valor Foundation store.</p><p>The Foundation&#8217;s mission is &#8220;to cover service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor.&#8221;</p><p>They work with the Luzerne County and Columbia County QOV groups to achieve that mission.</p><p>We spoke with 118 Fabrics&#8217; Jill Shaw about her business and why they participate in the program.</p><p>You can nominate a veteran to receive a Quilt of Valor by visiting www.qofv.org, and learn more about 118 Fabrics at www.118fabrics.com.</p><p><strong>Q: </strong>Jill, tell us about 118 Fabrics &amp; More. How long have you been in business?</p><p>A: 118 Fabrics &amp; More just celebrated our 14th year in September.</p><p>For 10 years my Mom, Irene Shaw and I ran Jilly&#8217;s, a restaurant in the building where 118 Fabrics is now. We closed the restaurant when my Mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. We opened the quilt shop in September and unfortunately she passed away the following February and didn&#8217;t get to enjoy any of the quilting business.</p><p>Every day we just try to make her proud. It isn&#8217;t a job yet&#8230;it&#8217;s still fun.</p><p><strong>Q:</strong> How did you become affiliated with QOV?</p><p>A: As a business you can apply with the Quilts of Valor Foundation to become an official Quilts of Valor Store. I was doing quilting for the group in Columbia County for about a year and a half and decided it was time to become official.</p><p>Then my store would be recognized as a shop that accepts QOV to quilt as well as one that has a great selection of patriotic fabrics and kits for people to purchase and make QOV.</p><p><strong>Q: </strong>Why did you want to become affiliated?</p><p>A: I started doing the quilting for the Columbia Country QOV group just to help out. I never thought I would be so moved by this cause. The veterans are so appreciative.</p><p>The phone calls and letters I receive are amazing, and I&#8217;m only one tiny part of the process. You know the expression &#8220;It takes an army&#8221;? Well, it certainly does to make this all come together.</p><style>
