United Auto Workers approve new 4-year contract with Ford

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; Leadership on Tap wasn&#8217;t just a fundraiser for Leadership Wilkes-Barre, according to the organization&#8217;s program director. It was a &#8220;friend-raiser,&#8221; too.</p><p>More than 200 tickets were sold for the event, which was held at the F.M. Kirby Center lobby on Friday evening. For the price of admission &#8212; either $20 in advance or $25 at the door &#8212; guests could know that they were benefiting the Leadership Wilkes-Barre Scholarship &amp; Development Fund.</p><p>The downtown Wilkes-Barre-based nonprofit seeks to educate employees on how to best act as leaders in their workplaces. And, according to Joe Calore, chairperson of the alumni counsel, events like Friday&#8217;s are an important part of continuing that mission.</p><p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a chance to come out and have fun, and also benefit the scholarship,&#8221; he said.</p><p>While typically tuition for the program is often covered by the students&#8217; employers, the scholarship program helps get students through the program whose employers are unable to fund their tuition.</p><p>What&#8217;s more, he said events like this are a great networking opportunity, helping both those who formerly went through the program and those who might be interested in joining up.</p><p>&#8220;We&#8217;re always trying to recruit more class members,&#8221; Calore said. &#8220;We&#8217;re open to anyone that wants to get to know the area and get involved in service projects.&#8221;</p><p>Jessica Cronauer, program director, agreed with Calore&#8217;s statements, saying Leadership on Tap, now in its seventh year, is a great opportunity.</p><p>&#8220;It&#8217;s just a really cool event, with dozens of restaurants donating food,&#8221; Cronauer said. &#8220;It&#8217;s a friend-raiser; it&#8217;s a fundraiser.&#8221;</p><p>Those in attendance were able to sample beer and wine from local breweries and wineries, along with the food Cronauer mentioned. There were also raffle prizes to help benefit the fundraiser.</p><style>
