Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins blanked in Bridgeport

Former Berwick head football coach Frank Sheptock was named the head coach at Bloomsburg University on Friday, returning to his alma mater where he was a star linebacker in the mid-1980s.&#8220;I am both humbled and honored to be the Bloomsburg University head football coach,&#8221; Sheptock said. &#8220;Bloomsburg University significantly impacted my development as an individual, and I take great pride in being allowed to continue that positive impact on our current and prospective student-athletes.&#8221;Sheptock coached Berwick from 2016-2018 and served as athletic director as well. His Berwick teams played for the District 2 Class 4A championship his first two years and reached the semifinals in 2018. He compiled a 27-11 record at Berwick.Sheptock left his Berwick positions and joined the King&#8217;s College coaching staff briefly before spending this season as the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Misericordia University.Sheptock was the head coach at Wilkes University from 1996-2014. He posted a 107-81 record and established a program record for most wins in a season (11) and career (107). The Colonels made nine postseason appearances under his direction. He spent 2015 as Bloomsburg&#8217;s defensive line coach.Bloomsburg fired head coach Paul Darragh shortly after the Huskies finished 5-6, their first losing season since 1998. Darragh spent seven seasons as Bloomsburg&#8217;s coach, but the Huskies have failed to make the postseason for a fourth consecutive time in 2019.Sheptock was a four-time PSAC First Team selection, a three-time First Team Associated Press All-American, and All-East Region honoree for the Huskies.H.S. GIRLS BASKETBALLNorthwest 50, Forest City 12Charleigh Minor scored 20 points and Reagan Harrison added 14 as the Rangers rolled over Forest City.Northwest&#8217;s defense limited Forest City to three points in each quarter.Miner scored 11 of her points in the opening two quarters, sparking Northwest to a 20-point halftime lead.Berwick 39, Central Columbia 31Jackie Nevel scored six of her 10 points in the final quarter as the Bulldogs pulled away from the Blue Jays.Renny Murphy scored 10 of her team-high 12 points in the first half to give Berwick a 17-15 edge at the break. Ellie Rowe led Central Columbia with 12 points.Valley View 61, Holy Redeemer 52Sam Yencha scored a game-high 26 points for the Royals, but she was the only Redeemer player to reach double figures in a loss to the Cougars.Valley View used a 23-10 third quarter to overcome a 30-22 halftime deficit and take control of the game.Montrose 53, Tunkhannock 51Lexi Cory scored a game-high 15 points for the Tugers, who made a furious comeback in the fourth quarter but fell just short against the Meteors.Hayley Pompey scored 10 of her team-high 14 points in the second half for Montrose to keep Tunkhannock at bay. Corby scored nine points in Tunkhannock&#8217;s 22-15 fourth quarter to add suspense to the finish.Central Catholic 31, Crestwood 15Faith Vaughan scored 10 of her game-high 11 points in the fourth quarter as Allentown Central Catholic built a 24-4 halftime lead in a defensive battle that left the Comets chasing all game.Jill Taleroski scored 10 of Crestwood&#8217;s 15 points and the Comets were held to two points in each of the first two quarters. Julia Roth added nine points for the Vikings.Western Wayne 56, Wyoming Seminary 29Kaeli Romanoski poured in 17 of her game-high 21 points in the opening quarter as Western Wayne stormed to a 30-5 lead after a quarter and cruised to victory.Alex Wesneski led the Blue Knights with nine points.H.S. BOYS BASKETBALLDallas 67, Hanover Area 52Jack Farrell scored a game-high 18 points, leading the Mountaineers over the Hawkeyes.Austin Finarelli added 15 points for Dallas in the victory.H.S. WRESTLINGCrestwood 48, Dallas 33Jeremy Bozak decked his opponent in 54 seconds, leading a parade of pins that carried the Comets past the Mountaineers.Bozek&#8217;s fall came in the 220-pound bout. Trey Zabroski at 138 and Nolan Stortz at 152 recorded pins for Crestwood in 87 seconds. Jack Andrews at 106, Santino Casserella at 113, Justin Sterling at 132 and Garrett Swank at 145 also recorded falls for the Comets.Dallas&#8217; Lenny Kelly needed just 35 seconds to drop his opponent at 195 to record the fastest pin of the match. Matt Maransky at 170, Bryce Chopyak at 182 and Justin Benscoter at 126 also picked up pins for the Mountaineers.<style>
