Matt McGloin&rsquo;s XFL debut couldn&rsquo;t have gotten off to a better start on Sunday.
				The former Penn State quarterback and Scranton native led the New York Guardians on a 48-yard touchdown drive, scoring on <a href="https://youtu.be/0vEzQs340wg" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">a 1-yard touchdown plunge </a><a href="https://youtu.be/0vEzQs340wg" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">himself</a>, in the Guardians 23-3 rout of the Tampa Bay Vipers.
				&ldquo;A lot of emotions,&rdquo; McGloin said to a sideline reporter before the game started. &ldquo;Seeing my family in the stands, it doesn&rsquo;t get any better than that.&rdquo;
				McGloin has been out of football since 2018 when he was one of the final cuts of the Kansas City Chiefs. But he showed no rust in playing his first game for WWE founder Vince McMahon&rsquo;s second run at a professional football league.
				He finished 15 of 29 for 182 yards with one touchdown pass and no interceptions.
				&ldquo;I think he&rsquo;s done a great job,&rdquo; New York Guardians Coach Kevin Gilbride told a reporter during the game. &ldquo;He&rsquo;s seeing where the pressures are coming from. I think he&rsquo;s identified where those things are, directed our protection the way it needs to be. He&rsquo;s made some terrific throws.&rdquo;
				McGloin was praised repeatedly during the broadcast for his ability to make pre-snap decisions by former All-Pro tight end Greg Olson. No where was that more evident than on his <a href="https://youtu.be/CYuXC7lzLno" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">touchdown </a><a href="https://youtu.be/CYuXC7lzLno" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">pass</a>.
				With the Guardians up 7-0 early in the second quarter, on a first-and-10 from the Vipers&rsquo; 12 yard line, McGloin read a Tampa Bay blitz and was able to throw to a wide-open Colby Pearson for a touchdown.
				McGloin and the Guardians will travel to Washington next to face the DC Defenders at 2 p.m. Saturday in matchup of Week 1 winners. The game will be on ABC.
