LAFLIN &mdash; In these dark times, when the scourge of the coronavirus has kept people not just from loved ones and work but even their places of worship, JMJ Catholic Radio continues to serve as a light for many.
				Operated in space provided rent-free by the Oblates of Saint Joseph for the past dozen years, the station is a labor of love maintained by founders Ed and Carol Ann Niewinski.
				Affiliated with Eternal World Television (EWTN), the station broadcasts programs 24/7 from all over the country, including a mix of religious talk and counseling shows.
				But for many here in northeastern Pennsylvania, JMJ (which stands for Jesus, Mary and Joseph) offers something that so many listeners are deprived of right now: daily broadcasts of Masses, rosary recitations and other programming that keeps them connected with religious services that have been closed to the public to prevent further spread of the deadly COVID-19 virus.
				&ldquo;We were always doing Masses,&rdquo; Ed Niewinski said in an interview Friday evening. &ldquo;We&rsquo;re doing more devotional things now.&rdquo;
				On Mondays, for example, listeners can tune in at 10:30 a.m. for the Mass and Novena from St. Ann&rsquo;s Monastery and Shrine Basilica in Scranton.
				With the growing Hispanic population in Hazleton, JMJ Radio offers a weekly Spanish Mass broadcast, as well as a weekly Byzantine Mass broadcast.
				The Niewinskis said they&rsquo;ve heard from many listeners who are grateful for these broadcasts, especially now.
				&ldquo;We&rsquo;re listener-supported, and we receive a lot of calls, as well as donations from grateful listeners,&rdquo; Ed Niewinski said of the station, which is a 501c3 non-profit organization.
				The station has no employees &mdash; just Ed and Carol Ann &mdash; with the Rev. Leo McKernan and Rev. Paul McDonnell acting as their executive board and spiritual advisors.
				When JMJ Catholic Radio first started, it was only found on 750 AM, but the Niewinskis have purchased three other channels since then &mdash; 98.9 FM, 1490 AM, and 91.7 FM.
				750 AM and 98.9 FM cover the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area while 1490 AM covers Hazleton and 91.7 FM covers Dushore. They recently expanded into the Altoona area on 91.9 FM.
