UK set to extend lockdown amid signs outbreak nearing peak

NANTICOKE &mdash; City police charged a Nanticoke man with fleeing and eluding along with numerous traffic violations following Wednesday&rsquo;s pursuit that ended with a crash in Plymouth Township.
				Police say Victor Manuel Correa, 40, of West Union Street, was behind the wheel of a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee when he refused to stop after an officer spotted him failing to obey a stop sign at East Green and South Walnut streets just after 11 a.m., according to court records.
				Correa initiated a pursuit with speeds reaching 100 mph and driving into oncoming traffic before it ended when he crashed on Route 11 near the Plymouth Township Municipal Building.
				Correa was charged with fleeing and eluding police, recklessly endangering another person and nine vehicle violations. He was arraigned via video by District Judge Donald Whittaker of Nanticoke and jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $100,000 bail.
				Correa was transported to Wilkes-Barre General Hospital following the crash. No other injuries were reported but police say pursuing officers, state police troopers and motorists were at risk.
				According to the criminal complaint:
				Correa was seen by an officer passing through an intersection controlled by stop signs without stopping. Correa initiated a pursuit into Hanover Township where he crossed into oncoming lane of traffic and entered the South Cross Valley Expressway going the wrong way.
				Police said Correa continued traveling the wrong way across the expressway bridge spanning the Susquehanna River into Plymouth Township where he headed south on Route 11.
				Correa swerved oncoming motorists on the bridge and weaved around other motorists on Route 11.
				Police said Correa continued south on Route 11 for about 10 miles until he observed state police cruisers approaching him. Correa stopped as the Nanticoke officer exited the cruiser and drew his firearm ordering him to stop, the complaint says.
				Correa sped away north on Route 11 swerving to avoid spike strips rolled out by troopers near the Garden Drive-In.
				Police said Correa drove into Plymouth Township where he crashed into a parked trailer with a boat.
				Numerous people and law enforcement officers were at risk of serious bodily injury or death during the pursuit, the complaint says.
