57 new COVID-19 cases in Luzerne County; 3 more have died

HAZLETON &mdash; A man city police charged in a fatal shooting at a tavern more than a year ago was returned to Luzerne County on Friday to face criminal homicide charges.
				Police allege Shandell Devone George, 32, with addresses as Hazleton and Bronx, N.Y., fatally shot Todd Martin and injured Alex Bonilla inside Lucky Charms bar on East Fifth Street on Feb. 19, 2019.
				Martin, 51, died March 10 at Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest in Lehigh County.
				George eluded authorities for nearly nine months until his capture by the U.S. Marshals on Nov. 13.
				The search for George led authorities to locations in North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida before taking them to New York, where he was captured in the 500 block of Tremont Street in The Bronx, according to a news release from U.S. Marshal Martin J. Pane.
				George was jailed in New York City until he was extradited on Friday.
				Police charged George with criminal homicide, criminal attempt to commit homicide, aggravated assault and recklessly endangering another person.
				District Attorney Stefanie Salavantis in a news release stated with respect to the COVID-19 concerns of all law enforcement, prison officials and the public, George was medically cleared and authorized to be transported.
				Salavantis thanked the U.S. Marshals in Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey and South Carolina and police in New York in searching for George.
				After George was arraigned, he was jailed at the county correctional facility without bail.
