Cartwright unveils hazard pay proposal for essential front line workers

DURYEA &mdash; Borough police arrested a Scranton man on allegations he violated a protection-from abuse order including threatening a Luzerne County judge.
				Police arrested Daniel Tolan, 56, of North Sixth Avenue, when he was found hiding inside a bedroom of a woman&rsquo;s residence on Foote Avenue at about 7:08 p.m. Tuesday. She told police she believed Tolan entered her residence while she was walking a dog.
				Police said Tolan violated a court imposed restraining order on Monday when he entered the woman&rsquo;s residence but evaded capture until he returned Tuesday.
				Tolan was wanted by Luzerne County detectives on allegations he threatened to kill county Judge Fred A. Pierantoni III during a video conference meeting with a physician&rsquo;s assistant on March 19.
				Court records say Pierantoni signed the woman&rsquo;s application for a protection-from abuse order on Nov. 14.
				A copy of the PFA could not be obtained due to the courthouse closure to the public.
				According to the criminal complaint:
				Tolan had a scheduled appointment via video conference with a physician&rsquo;s assistant at a Scranton medical clinic on March 19. During the conference, Tolan claimed he was &ldquo;thrown in jail&rdquo; on March 18 and hated Pierantoni.
				Tolan told the physician&rsquo;s assistant if Pierantoni ever came near his house, the judge will need to bring a bucket because Tolan was going to blow the judge&rsquo;s brains out into it, the complaint says.
				The physician&rsquo;s assistant told Tolan he should not be speaking about threatening a judge.
				Tolan praised his skills as a sniper telling the physician&rsquo;s assistant he was going to &ldquo;kiss&rdquo; the judge some day. The physician&rsquo;s assistant again told Tolan he should not be speaking that way and would have to respond to the threats.
				Tolan replied, &ldquo;No, I really am going to kill him one day,&rdquo; and claimed his brother is a Pagan and had killed a judge and a lawyer years ago, and &ldquo;smoked&rdquo; someone who owed him money behind a Turkey Hill store, the complaint says.
				Tolan&rsquo;s alleged threats were reported to authorities.
				Tolan was arraigned Wednesday by District Judge Joseph J. Carmody in West Pittston on terroristic threats, criminal attempt to commit terroristic threats, criminal trespass, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and contempt of court for violating a protection from abuse order. He was jailed at the county correctional facility for lack of $72,500 total bail.
				In an unrelated case, Tolan is facing a trial in June before Judge Joseph F. Sklarosky Jr. on charges of simple assault, terroristic threats and false imprisonment after Duryea police alleged he assaulted the woman at her residence on Nov. 9, blaming her for ruining the Grateful Dead.
