KINGSTON &mdash; With Memorial Day fast approaching, the Kingston Historical Society is honoring its &ldquo;Hometown Heroes&rdquo; by placing banners of the town&rsquo;s veterans on utility poles along Wyoming Avenue and Market Street.
				Project co-chairpersons Sandra Touw and Judi Nunemacher said 85 banners have been hung and more are already being ordered for next year&rsquo;s display.
				&ldquo;We honor our military in many ways &mdash; special days, parades, ceremonies,&rdquo; said Touw. &ldquo;Recently, many local towns began lining their streets with military banners. This is a great way to honor our veterans.&rdquo;
				Touw said the banners were hing by the Kingston Street Department.
				&ldquo;We had planned to have a dedication of the banners on Saturday (May 16), but it had to be canceled because of the pandemic,&rdquo; Touw said. &ldquo;We hope to hold a ceremony in the future when social distancing is a thing of the past.&rdquo;
				Touw said the Kingston Historical Society has also placed a plaque in the Kingston Municipal Building that has more than 2,500 names of World War II veterans on it.
				Touw said the banners can be purchased to honor all veterans of all wars or any service member.

				Touw and Nunemacher began the project months ago and said the banners will be taken down after Veterans Day in November. They said the banners measure 30-inches by 60-inches&rdquo; and are made of heavy duty vinyl.
				&ldquo;We hope to use them for three years or more,&rdquo; Touw said. &ldquo;Currently any veteran or family member can download an application from the Kingston Historical Society Facebook page.&rdquo;
				Touw said the cost is $175 per banner, which must be submitted with a photo that will appear on the banner. She said the photo will be returned once the banner is proofread.
