SCRANTON &#8212; A free film screening and panel discussion to bring awareness of human trafficking will be presented at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 16 at Marywood University in the Comerford Theatre, Center for Natural and Health Sciences.The event will begin with the screening of the film, &#8220;Pittsburg Fights Back,&#8221; followed by a panel discussion featuring social activists and others with significant experience on the issue of human trafficking, including: Heather Evans, founder and director, Valley Against Sex Trafficking (VAST); Debbie Colton, founder and director, Oasis of Hope and Krista Hoffman, technical consultant, faculty, Messiah College.The annual Poster Day activity will take place at 9 a.m. Friday, April 17 in the Liberal Arts Center, Room 319. Following a short training/orientation session on human trafficking by Mark Rodgers, DSW, LCSW, BSD, dean of the College of Health and Human Services, volunteers will be divided into groups and given informational posters on trafficking to distribute within assigned areas (local businesses, organizations, and stores) in Scranton.For more information on the film screening and panel discussion, or to volunteer for the annual Poster Day event, contact Sunny Sinha, Ph.D., assistant professor of social work and chair of the Human Trafficking Awareness and Prevention Committee at Marywood University at sinha.sunny@marywood.edu.
