Baseball plans game at Field of Dreams, but will they come?

A popular July 4 giveaway of children&rsquo;s bicycle helmets has been canceled due to the coronavirus, so the organization that holds the annual event has come up with another way to put a smile on the faces of area children.
				The Hourigan, Kluger & Quinn Fund for Children&rsquo;s Advocacy, also known as HKQ Kids, will host a free drive-in movie at the Garden Drive In on June 26.
				The bicycle helmet giveaway has been held for more than 12 years in Kirby Park, in conjunction with Wilkes-Barre&rsquo;s annual Independence Day festival and fireworks. It always drew a large crowd of youngsters happy to get the free helmets.
				&ldquo;Over the past twelve years, our annual helmet giveaway has turned into a wonderful community event,&rdquo; HKQ Law Attorney Joseph A. Quinn Jr said in a press release. &ldquo;This year, in the interest of keeping everyone safe, we will be hosting a night at the drive-in where families can enjoy time together.&rdquo;
				Safety was the key, according to Quinn.
				&ldquo;It was important to us to hold a safe family event in lieu of our annual bike helmet giveaway. Especially now, when most normal routines are disrupted, spending quality time with your family is very important,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;Our entire firm looks forward to the day when we can distribute bike helmets again, and you have our promise that once it is safe to do so, we will be distributing helmets to continue to help keep kids in Northeastern Pennsylvania safe.&rdquo;
				The drive-in event will be held at the Garden Drive-In and feature a pair of classic movie double features.
				&ldquo;Shrek&rdquo; and &ldquo;Madagascar&rdquo; will be shown on the drive-in&rsquo;s main screen, while &ldquo;Ferris Bueller&rsquo;s Day Off&rdquo; and &ldquo;Back to the Future&rdquo; will be shown on the drive-in&rsquo;s second screen.
				Reservations for the event must be made online at gardendrivein.com, starting June 22. Vehicles occupants will be limited to the number of seat belts in the vehicle.
				Refreshments will be available. Social distancing and masks will be required at the concession stand.
				HKQ Kids was established in October 2005 to promote child safety through community outreach and educational programs. The fund is administered by the Luzerne Foundation.
