SCRANTON &mdash; Three Luzerne County men will be ordained priests by Diocese of Scranton Bishop Joseph Bambera today, but attendance will be limited due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
				In a media release, the diocese announced that admission to the ordination is limited to invited guests only. It will be broadcast live on the diocesan cable channel CTV, and it will be live-streamed on the diocese website as well as its social media channels including as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.
				The men are Jonathan P. Kuhar of Mountain Top, Kevin Miller of Wilkes-Barre and Shawn Simchock of Hazleton.
				Kuhar is 36 and a member of St. Jude Parish in Mountain Top. He comes to the priesthood after earning his law degree and opening his own practice in Kingston. But, according to the release, he had long considered the priesthood and said he felt the calling after starting his new profession. He completed his studies for priesthood at Saint Mary&rsquo;s Seminary and University in Baltimore, Md.
				&ldquo;I&rsquo;m joyful. I&rsquo;m excited. I can&rsquo;t wait to get started,&rdquo; Kuhar said in the media release. &ldquo;This year is a little odd in that we&rsquo;ve delayed the ordination by a couple weeks because of the pandemic so we&rsquo;ll be beginning in our assignments within a couple days of getting ordained. I think that is really nice. We&rsquo;re jumping right into it. There is a need out there and we are going right into it.&rdquo;
				At age 55, Miller is the oldest of the three future priests. He is a member of St. Nicholas Parish in Wilkes-Barre and completed his theological training at Pope Saint John XXIII National Seminary in Weston, Massachusetts. Like Kuhar, he says he felt the call to priesthood at early, at the age of 12. But he opted to obtain a chemistry degree from the University of Scranton, then joined the Army reserves and got into the Pennsylvania Army National Guard, where he became a field artillery officer before retiring 32 years later as a lieutenant colonel.
				&ldquo;Through that whole time, the idea of being a priest never really left me,&rdquo; he said in the release. &ldquo;There were times where it was much more prominent and times when it was significantly in the back but it was never gone.&rdquo;
				A member of Queen of Heaven Parish in Hazleton, Simchock is 44 and also completed his priesthood studies at Pope Saint John XXIII. He earned his first college degree from Bloomsburg University in political science and entered the restaurant management and sales field, but decided to enter the permanent diaconate program in 2013.
				&ldquo;I&rsquo;m tremendously excited to begin. We had a little delay in the ordination due date to COVID-19 but I&rsquo;m ready,&rdquo; Simchock said in the release. &ldquo;Six years of hard work comes down to this point, when we get ordained and I am ready to go to work for the people of the Diocese of Scranton.
				&ldquo;To be able to go out and hear a confession and absolve someone of their sins, to go out and to anoint someone who is ready to go home to the Lord, those things are just so amazingly beautiful. I remember sitting there, watching my mother&rsquo;s anointing when she was ill, to see what it does for a person, there are no words that I can use to describe it.&rdquo;
