State extends unemployment compensation benefits for 13 more weeks

Former Coughlin standout and current Cincinnati Bengals center Bruce Kozerski used his time as the honorary captain of the UNICO All-Star Game in 1989 to talk about the differences between then and now.
				Kozerski played for the East in 1980 and relished the opportunity to meet players from other schools.
				&ldquo;It was a good game,&rdquo; Kozerski said. &ldquo;I remember the practice week that we had. I met a lot of guys I played against for three years. I was a lot of fun.&rdquo;
				Kozerski didn&rsquo;t have much time to enjoy the victory with his new teammates.
				&ldquo;We won and I had to work right after the game,&rdquo; Kozerski said.
				That kind of drive allowed Kozerski to go from a ninth-round pick out of Holy Cross to a 12-year NFL career. He wished the players who skipped the 1989 didn&rsquo;t do so.
				&ldquo;It&rsquo;s their last chance to played high school football and they last chance for the fans to see them as high school players,&rdquo; Kozerski said. &ldquo;A lot of them don&rsquo;t realize that. Years later, they&rsquo;ll regret it and wished they played.&rdquo;
				The West defeated the East 13-3 in the 1989 game with Berwick&rsquo;s Dante Frank and Lake-Lehman&rsquo;s Scott Wascalus scored the game&rsquo;s only touchdowns on short runs.
				Kozerski went on to be the had football coach at Holy Cross High School in Covington, Ky.
				1979 
				College Misericordia continued its effort to establish a men&rsquo;s basketball team in time for the 1979-80 season.
				The college advertised for a coach and finding someone considered capable of building the program from scratch was the first step. The position would be part time.
				Misericordia was a predominantly female college and admitted its first male student in 1971. It had 115 part-time and full-time male students in 1979.
				1995 
				The WWF held an event at Wilkes before about 1,600, but only a few of them were there for one highlight. It occurred prior to the event when George &ldquo;The Animal&rdquo; Steele was stranded in an elevator at the Marts Center.
				The matches were taped to be shown over a three-week period on FOX and USA Network.
				1996 
				The District 16 Little League major baseball tournament began with 33 teams vying for the title. Before league mergers and District 16 splitting into two, with the west side of the river becoming District 31, it was considered the largest district in the country. Rumor had it that District 16 at the time was the second biggest in the world, with the entire country of Japan being the biggest.
				There were plenty of highlights in the opening round of the double-elimination tournament.
				Hanover&rsquo;s Dan Yeninas threw a no-hitter and struck out 16 in a 4-1 win over Avoca/Dupont.
				Ed/Lark&rsquo;s Jim O&rsquo;Malia also tossed a no-hitter in a 5-0 victory against Nanticoke.
				Jenkins&rsquo; Paul Migliori was 3-for-4 with a double and triple as his team defeated Mountain Top National 6-5.
				Richard Condo threw a one-hitter as Swoyersville topped Miners Mills 13-0.
				Cory Norton hit a homer in the top of the seventh as Kingston edged Mountain Top American 7-6.
