Mask mandate: Pa. order comes amid uptick in cases

WILKES-BARRE &mdash; Amid the COVID-19 pandemic and the resultant demand for a new vaccine and new therapeutics for the disease, Wilkes University announced a virtual &ldquo;Discover Pharmacy&rdquo; Camp for high school students this August.
				The camp will run Aug. 18 an 19. The fee is $40 per student. It will be fully online but the Nesbitt School of Pharmacy plans to mail camp kits to participating students&rsquo; homes that, combined with household items, will allow them to participate in interactive, hands-on activities.
				Those activities include: Naloxone training, making cough drops, calculating and drawing acetaminophen dosages, dissolving over-the-counter medications, building a heart model to explore anatomy and physiology concepts, learning how pharmacists help the fight against cancer, and competing in a pharmacy Jeopardy style game.
				According to a media release, participating students will examine public health issues, pharmacogenomics (how genes affect the response to drugs), chromatography and patient education. There&rsquo;s also help in learning the pharmacy school application process, tips on preparing for the Nesbitt School of Pharmacy and information on the career paths such an education opens.
				Current pharmacy students, faculty and deans will be available for some discussions. The camps will run 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. Deadline for registration is July 31.
