PITTSTON &mdash; A man on state parole initiated a pursuit with city police that ended in the driveway of a residence on Searle Street and the discovery of a cache of knives and a machete Tuesday night.
				Julio Torres, 45, address listed as Hickory Street, Old Forge, was arrested after he abandoned an Acura in the driveway following a pursuit on several streets in Pittston and Hughestown at about 10:30 p.m.
				Police attempted to stop Torres when he was observed driving the vehicle with a loud muffler, according to court records.
				Torres was driving slowly on several streets passing several parking lots giving him the opportunity to stop while being followed by a cruiser that had activated emergency lights and siren, court records say.
				Police alleged Torres initiated the pursuit when he turned onto Lyons Street when he accelerated at a high rate of speed. During the pursuit, Torres allegedly brake-checked his vehicle nearly causing a rear-end collision with the cruiser.
				Torres passed through intersections with stop signs and nearly struck a pedestrian at Reynolds and Parsonage streets, and came close to colliding with a Hughestown police cruiser at Leonard Street and Washington Terrace, court records say.
				Torres almost lost control of the vehicle, police alleged, when he jumped the curb and drove through a front yard of a residence on Leonard Street.
				Police in court records say Torres turned onto Prospect Street at a high rate of speed and nearly struck the rear of a Volvo that was forced into oncoming traffic and off the road.
				Torres turned onto Searle Street and then into a driveway when an approaching police cruiser blocked the way, according to court records.
				Police alleged Torres skidded to a stop in the driveway and fled the vehicle dropping a knife on the ground. Torres ran through several yards until he was apprehended, police said.
				Police said a backpack inside the vehicle contained a Taser, a machete, a billy club and several knives and switchblade knives, court records say.
				Court records say Torres is on state parole on an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon conviction.
				Police allege Torres had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage and displayed blood shot and glossy eyes. He refused to submit to a blood test.
				Torres was arraigned Wednesday by District Judge Ferris Webby in Luzerne County Central Court on charges of fleeing or eluding police, escape, obstruction administration of justice, resisting arrest, prohibited offensive weapons, simple assault, reckless endangerment, driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license and 11 traffic violations. He was jailed at the county correctional facility for lack of $75,000 bail.
