Congress weighs kicking racist chief justice from Capitol

HAZLETON &mdash; A man from Weatherly being watched by city police on suspicion of illegal drug activity allegedly crashed into several parked vehicles after he initiated a pursuit on Monday.
				Police arrested Jason Christopher Soraci, 27, of Carbon Street, after a struggle in a parking lot on South Locust Street where he crashed into three vehicles just before 2:30 p.m.
				According to the criminal complaint:
				Police were conducting surveillance in the Alter Street Business District, described as a high crime and drug area. A man known to police was observed entering the passenger seat of a parked Mercury Mountaineer at Alter and West Fourth streets.
				The driver, identified as Soraci, drove away and parked at Alter and West Fifth Streets, where the passenger exited.
				Soraci drove to West Second and North Locust streets where he parked and exited, standing around the rear of the vehicle.
				Police said Soraci then drove to Lafayette Court and exited the vehicle, walking to an apartment building on West Locust Street.
				Soraci returned to the vehicle and removed items before replacing the items back into the vehicle.
				Police in the complaint said Soraci drove away and initiated a pursuit when an officer attempted to stop him on North Locust Street.
				During the pursuit, police alleged Soraci kept leaning toward the front passenger seat.
				Soraci turned into a parking lot, struck a curb and collided with a parked vehicle. The force of the impact caused the parked vehicle into two other parked vehicles, the complaint says.
				Police alleged Soraci refused to show his hands, which he kept placing down his shorts and toward his mouth.
				An officer smashed the driver&rsquo;s side window and used force to remove Soraci from the vehicle. Soraci was arrested after he struggled with officers, the complaint says.
				Police in the complaint said they found three empty heroin packets stamped &ldquo;Get Lucky&rdquo; and a blue straw containing white residue. Soraci allegedly displayed glossy eyes from illegal drug use.
				Soraci was arraigned by District Judge James Haggerty in Luzerne County Central Court on charges of resisting arrest, tampering with evidence, driving under the influence of a controlled substance, driving without a license, possession of drug paraphernalia and three traffic and vehicle citations. He was jailed at the county correctional facility for lack of $20,000 bail.
