Pandemic wrecks global Class of 2020’s hopes for first job

PLYMOUTH TWP. &mdash; It&rsquo;s been a tumultuous year for everyone, but the Tilbury Fire and Rescue Station has continued to find ways to give back to the community, week after week.
				Between &ldquo;Food Fridays&rdquo; and spaghetti dinners, the men and women of Tilbury have never stopped working hard for Plymouth Township, including Saturday&rsquo;s food and vendor festival, held at the station&rsquo;s Poplar Street firehouse.
				&ldquo;We want everyone to know we&rsquo;re still here,&rdquo; said Fire Chief Barry Lore. &ldquo;We want to keep giving back.&rdquo;
				Described as a &ldquo;food and vendor frenzy&rdquo; by the event&rsquo;s Facebook page, Saturday&rsquo;s festival was a good example of what the festivals and bazaars that are typically held all over the Wyoming Valley have become in the era of COVID-19.
				Vendors were spaced apart, as were the food trucks offering delicious meals, including potato pancakes and haluski. Masks were on, and everyone respectfully kept their distance when possible.
				&ldquo;A lot of these types of things have been canceled, for obvious reasons,&rdquo; Lore said.
				Lore said that he had spent most of the morning baking pasties with some of the other firehouse members, a popular item not just on Saturday but at Tilbury Station&rsquo;s monthly pasty sale.
				One vendor, Crafts by Cass, was set up right by the doors to the fire hall with a variety of necklaces, earrings, bracelets and homemade masks.
				&ldquo;I make the masks myself,&rdquo; said vendor Cassy Silveri. &ldquo;I found out about today on Facebook and reached out for a spot.&rdquo;
				Inside the fire hall, a few more vendors were situated, as were some representatives from the station. On a table sat a boot, stuffed to the brim with donations from the community.
				The timing of Saturday&rsquo;s festival was bittersweet for Lore and the rest of the Tilbury team: it was right around this time last August that the Plymouth Township Board of Supervisors decertified the fire station.
				&ldquo;It&rsquo;s sort of like an anniversary we&rsquo;re marking here today,&rdquo; Lore said. &ldquo;We&rsquo;ve never stopped working hard, and bringing in money, in the hopes that maybe something will change.&rdquo;
				Another big money-maker for the Tilbury Station, the annual Horror Hall haunted house that&rsquo;s been put on at the firehouse for more than years, will still go ahead this fall, with some adjustments.
				&ldquo;We will comply fully with CDC and Department of Agriculture guidelines,&rdquo; Lore said. &ldquo;I think we&rsquo;ll be able to run the haunted house, unless something drastic changes between now and then.&rdquo;
