State opting in to Trump’s $300-a-week jobless pay

WILKES-BARRE &mdash; Testing will be held next month to fill four openings in the city fire department.
				Applications for the entry-level firefighter exam to be conducted by the Wilkes-Barre Fire Civil Service Commission are available at the City Clerk&rsquo;s Office and must be submitted in person by 4 p.m. on Aug. 28. There is a non-refundable $50 filing fee that must be submitted with the application.
				Applications are available from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday in the Clerk&rsquo;s Office on the fourth floor of City Hall, 40 E. Market St.,Wilkes-Barre and online at <a href="https://www.wilkes-barre.city/sites/g/files/vyhlif4086/f/uploads/civil_service_application.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">www.wilkes-barre.city</a>.
				The entry-level Firefighter E position pays $47,598 a year plus benefits.
				The written exam will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Sept. 12 at the Luzerne County Community College Educational Conference Center, 1333 S. Prospect St., Nanticoke.
				Candidates must arrive at 8 a.m. for COVID-19 screening. Masks are required until seated and social distancing guidelines will be followed.
				Candidates must pass the written exam in order to qualify to take the physical agility test scheduled for Oct. 3 at a time and place to be announced.

				Applicants who are claiming Veterans&rsquo; Preference must supply proof of service and honorable discharge when submitting their applications.
				Applicants claiming preference points must submit proof along with their application for the following:
				&#8226; Associate&rsquo;s Degree in Fire Science Technology from an accredited institution of higher learning (2 points).
				&#8226; Current Pennsylvania Emergency Medical Technician Certification (2 points).
				&#8226; PA Firefighter I Certification (1 point).
