Wyoming Valley West halts fall sports pending school board vote

The Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency formally announced the awarding of school health and safety grants that became available in June. Districts and other school entities had to apply for the money, but the state already had announced how much they could get. Luzerne County&rsquo;s 11 school districts were eligible for nearly $2.9 million.
				On Monday the state announced the grant recipients. Along with all 11 Luzerne County districts getting what was promised, another $450,000 is going to the Luzerne Intermediate Unite, Bear Creek Community Charter School, and the county&rsquo;s three career and technical centers: Hazleton Area, West Side and Wilkes-Barre Area. Each was awarded $90,000.
				The commission established the School Safety and Security Committee to handle the the grants, funded through the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief & Economic Security Act. The money is intended to help with implementing the public health and safety plans required by the state for school re-opening during the pandemic this year.
