The Wyoming Valley West school board met Tuesday morning and decided it will vote on Thursday whether to continue fall sports due to COVID-19 concerns.
				Hanover Area also shut down fall sports on Sunday. Its school board will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday to vote on continuing the season.
				Wyoming Valley West shut down fall sports on Monday, which was the first official day of practice on the PIAA calendar. Teams throughout the Wyoming Valley Conference have been holding voluntary workouts throughout the summer, although Hanover Area and Nanticoke Area halted them for a time due to possible COVID-19 issues.
				Football is the sport most affected by the shutdowns. Teams must have five mandatory days of heat acclimation before having practices involving physical contact. Most programs were using this week to get those days in.
				Carbondale is the only school in District 2 to cancel fall sports. Abington Heights has cancelled all fall sports except cross country, golf and girls tennis.
				The PIAA Board of Directors voted 25-5 Friday to have fall sports despite Gov. Tom Wolf&rsquo;s recommendation that scholastic and youth sports be suspended until Jan. 1 because of COVID-19 concerns. The PIAA said it would be up to each individual school district to decide to proceed with fall sports.
				The board also voted 30-0 to allow schools canceling this fall seasons to seek an alternative season at a later date.
