Wilkes-Barre suspends tire and electronic drop-off, receives too much junk

FORTY FORT &mdash; Corresponding PennDOT projects totaling $6.3 million are underway on Wyoming Avenue in Kingston and Forty Fort.
				According to Patricia Fritsky, Acting Assistant Construction Manager for PennDOT&rsquo;s construction unit, a total of three ADA curb ramp projects are in effect and winding down from Wyoming to Edwardsville. The project covers approximately 15 miles for an estimated cost of $3.8 million.
				Fritsky said the upcoming paving project for Route 11 (Wyoming Avenue) from the Midway Shopping Center to the Gateway Shopping Center, should be starting at the end of August. She said the project covers approximately nine miles at an estimated cost of $2.5 million.
				Fritsky said federal funding was received for the projects, necessitating the ADA-required curb ramps.
				&ldquo;Whenever federal funding is involved, we must assure that all ADA requirements are brought up to code,&rdquo; Fritsky said. &ldquo;The curb ramps had to be completed before paving can begin.&rdquo;
				Fritsky said the project calls for making all pedestrian pathways accessible for everyone.
				&ldquo;And they don&rsquo;t necessarily have to be at a signalized intersection or even a four-way or three-way intersection,&rdquo; Fritsky said. &ldquo;The interpretation of the law is that all pedestrian pathways must be available for sue by everyone.&rdquo;
				Fritsky said the project was explained to officials of both Forty Fort Borough and Kingston Borough and both support the projects.
				&ldquo;We have also revisited the site and reviewed the project,&rdquo; Fritsky said.
				Forty Fort Mayor Andy Tuzinski said that the projects are ADA-required access points that were designed by PennDOT. He noted that Wyoming Avenue is a state road.
				&ldquo;There is no borough involvement in this project,&rdquo; Tuzinski said.
				Kingston Administrator Paul Keating said he did not receive any complaints or concerns about the project.
				&ldquo;Nor am I aware of any complaints,&rdquo; Keating said.
