WILKES-BARRE &#8211; Demolition began on the former PanAm Silk Mills Inc. property, owned by the city, at 773 S. Franklin St. this week.
				The demolition of the South Franklin Street property follows the removal of an eyesore property on East Northampton Street. The triple-block house at 209-211-213 E. Northampton was the first on the list for Wilkes-Barre Mayor George Brown to tear down as he and his administration take on blighted properties.
				The city has applied for state funding to address blight, an issue Brown campaigned on last year in his run for mayor. In its application to the Commonwealth Financing Authority for a $300,000 Blight Remediation Program grant, the city included a list of properties to either rehabilitate or demolish with the funds. The city must come up with a 10% match for the grant.
