COVID-19 by ZIP code: Kingston sees a surge

EDWARDSVILLE &mdash; Good beer, and good bratwurst &mdash; it doesn&rsquo;t get much better than that, and anyone lucky enough to stop by Wyoming Valley Beverage on Sunday could walk out with both.
				Through a partnership with Sam Adams, Oktoberfest came to Edwardsville on Sunday afternoon, a promotional event that will carry on through September at participating beverage stores throughout the area.
				&ldquo;With everything ending up canceled, we wanted to do something where people could still get that Oktoberfest spirit, but with social distancing and safety built in,&rdquo; said Jenna Weisenborn, a sales representative from Sam Adams.
				Weisenborn has a few more stops on her list, including similar promotional events at two Wilkes-Barre distributors, Beer Super on Sept. 26 and Thrifty Beverage on Oct. 4.
				Customers were rewarded for timeliness on Sunday; the first 20 customers to purchase a case of Sam Adams Oktoberfest or Jack-O Pumpkin Ale received a Sam Adams beer stein as well as a customized German alpine hat.
				Doug Keller could be seen outside the store wearing his hat, having shown up at Wyoming Valley Beverage a few minutes before the promotion started at 11 a.m.
				&ldquo;I&rsquo;m retired now, I have all the time in the world,&rdquo; Keller joked. &ldquo;This is where I usually get my beer, and I thought I&rsquo;d stop by and check out what&rsquo;s going on.&rdquo;
				The Oktoberfest experience didn&rsquo;t stop once the beer was rung up and the purchase made, however. Right outside in the parking lot, Murt&rsquo;s Mobile Diner was waiting to offer up some delicious German food to go along with the beer.
				The truck is owned by Brandon Murtha, a 20-year-old from Nanticoke who is still a month away from being able to purchase a case of beer himself.
				&ldquo;I started making food and cupcakes and other things when I was around 14,&rdquo; Murtha said. &ldquo;I opened the truck up last year.&rdquo;
				Murtha said that the truck typically serves up burgers and other, more typical offerings, but when he got the call for Oktoberfest, he switched up the menu.
				&ldquo;We&rsquo;re serving sausage, spatzle, basically anything German we could make,&rdquo; Murtha said. &ldquo;We&rsquo;ll be making the other stops that Sam Adams is doing, too.&rdquo;
				Murtha had his mask on, as did the employees inside Wyoming Valley Beverage, in order to comply with COVID-19 guidelines. Customers were in and out, food and beer in hand.
				&ldquo;Everyone could get their beer, step outside and grab something from the truck and be on their way,&rdquo; Weisenborn said.
				The next stop on the Sam Adams Oktoberfest tour is Lakeway Beverage in Dallas, set for Sept. 18.
