Look Back: Midget car races, high school football held at Bone Stadium

WRIGHT TWP &mdash; The Mountain Top chapter of the General Federation of Women&rsquo;s Clubs held a drive-through collection drive in support of local law enforcement on Saturday at the Christ United Methodist Church on Main Road.
				Four carloads of water, snacks, hand sanitizer, gloves and masks were on display and becoming more and more packed with items by the minute, as residents of the area were invited to drive up and drop off supplies for local police officers.
				&ldquo;They did a similar drive in Butler Township, so we wanted to do one for our local officers,&rdquo; said Jacquie Fine, the co-president of GFWC Mountain Top. &ldquo;It&rsquo;s so important, especially now, to show our support for our local officers.&rdquo;
				The supplies are to be distributed to three of the local departments, Wright Township, Rice Township and Fairview Township. The fourth vehicle was stocked with supplies for the Hazleton barracks of the Pennsylvania State Police.
				&ldquo;They cover a lot of the area up here, including Dorrance Township, and they&rsquo;re a big help,&rdquo; Fine said.
				The process was simple &#8211; drive up to the tent where the GFWC members were stationed, pop the trunk, and let the volunteers take the supplies for sorting and distributing. No one even needed to get out of their vehicle, and the whole process took about two minutes.
				Lois Danna was one such participant. A resident of the Mountain Top area, she brought bottled water and chewing gum.
				&ldquo;I heard about this through the community and on Facebook,&rdquo; Danna said. &ldquo;It&rsquo;s a great cause.&rdquo;
				The drive ran from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and by noon the drive was well on its way to over 100 different donors. Monetary donations and gift card donations were also popular, and proved to be a big success.
				&ldquo;We&rsquo;ve made over $1,000 in just monetary donations alone,&rdquo; Fine said. &ldquo;We&rsquo;ve had a great turnout so far.&rdquo;
				GFWC Mountain Top, formerly known as the Women&rsquo;s Club of Mountain Top, was founded in 1954 as part of GFWC Pennsylvania, an organization that consists of almost 100 different clubs and 3,000 members.
